Mental hopscotch is my fave The Drums and that guitar feedback solo and Dales voice... but this has a nice groove and Dale, I can't help it , to this day, Love her big hair, Gorgeous face, Perfect figure etc.... And that Unique voice that you recognize right away.

Summer of 1986 I believe, just started to be a fan, bought 2 copies the week it was released. 1st printing had some production issues as the 2nd side was mastered at a slightly higher speed than the 1st so dale sounded like a high pitched mouse. Over all the record flopped , never understood why they went away from their orginal sound with Ken Scott on Spring Session M in 1982. Phenomenal cutting edge new wave music at the time with commercial appeal and absolute top notch musicianship. Rhyme and reason( 1984), had great production and playing but way too experimental to have commercial succuces. While color in your life was just a dumb ideal of dance oriented Benard Edwards production that didn't fit missing persons

And they blew doors on all three regardless. Frickin' awesome band.

Yes!...their original sound was really outstanding!!!--super tight and extremely catchy...with awesome lyrics, guitar work, monster drumming and Dale's unique vocal inflection--what an era.

The second album didn't do well so Capitol brought in some generic producers. Also, I think their relationships were falling apart, and it became product. The first album was when they were hungry and ready to take on the world.

Dave Brewer Hell...at least everyone actually sang and played their damn instruments back then. If you were to go see 99% of the garbage that is popular today, you would learn very quickly they can’t pull it off so they all lip sync. Such a drag...lol!

I hated all of those hair bands like Poison but we also had a lot of really lame stuff by old fogies getting haircuts and using synthesizers and drum machines to seem contemporary. Do Sussudio, We Built This City, We Didn't Start The Fire and Money For Nothing ring a bell?

Another thing I hated about that era was having synthesizers and drum machines permeate everything that was released. You had one of the best garage bands in L.A. in the form of The Bangles and, by the time Columbia Records was done with them, they were recording shit like "Manic Monday". Compare "Manic Monday" with any of their early singles, their first EP (1982) or their first LP, All Over the Place (1984). Do you know how much better their last 2 albums would have been if their producer didn't try to make them sound contemporary--if he had let them remain a garage band with just 2 guitars, a bass, drums and their fabulous voices? Don't get me wrong. I don't have a problem with electronic music per se. I loved Soft Cell, for example. I'm just saying that I was sick of hearing a drum machine and/or synthesizer on seemingly every song I heard in the 80's. Thank God there were a few bands that didn't use them but they were relatively few.

Pretty sure Madonna was already massively successful by the time this song came out in 1986. There are some comparisons to be drawn between Dale and Madonna, but I don't think either was imitating the other. I think that what you could say is that Dale is rock and LA, while Madonna is dance and NY.

She was the skilled lead vocalist of a very skilled band. Not trying to be an egotistical pop star like the other two, who are talented in their own right, but surrounded by pop slop backgrounds. MP smoked every band around back then.

​@Lee Barbier No, MP didn't have any 'MTV hits' until 1982, when Spring Session M was released. Madonna's first LP came out the following year. To suggest that she 'emerged' only at that point is naive. As is now very obvious, Madonna was highly ambitious and had been trying to make a name for herself in the NY club scene for years before she released her first music. My point is that Madonna and Dale B had been involved in very different music scenes for years, developing their look etc entirely independently of each other. In the pre-internet era, it would have been quite difficult for one to 'plagiarise' the other. And for the record, while I can't fault her determination, I dislike Madonna's singing and music, whereas I love MP, and to say that Madonna is even close to being like DB is something of an insult to Dale!
