Miller, Roger - When A House Is Not A Home Lyrics

I walk up to my door and hate to turn the key
Emptiness is all that waits inside for me
That's how it is when the one you love is gone
That's how it is when your house is not a home
I look around and see things marked with his and hers
Things like these just make things that much worse
That's how it is since I live my life alone
That's how it is since my house is not a home

Is there a way up for soul so torn as mine
Each day I live I'm like a prisoner passin' time
That's how it is ask anyone who lives alone
That's how it is when your house is not a home

Possibly his greatest song and perhaps this version is only topped by the Willie Nelson recording. Extraordinary, mega talent.

A lot of people only know Mr. Miller for his funny comedy songs...but he could also do songs that will tear your heart out such as this one. He was a brilliant man!

Little Jimmy Dickens version of this is great also

Wow wow wow and with the great Buddy Emmons on steel guitar

Thanks for posting this version. I last heard it back in 2005 on WSDS "suds" country 1480AM in Ypsilanti, Mich a couple months before they went off the air for good. Much better version than the other.  Modern country songs just dont have the soul like this style of country. Between Roger MIller's voice and steel guitar solo you can just feel the pain and anguish. Classic

Thanks again Marianne; I used to love listening to him, was shocked when I heard that he passed away as he was one of my favourites.  Still enjoy him. He was also quite a comedian huh! Great guy!
