Rah rah rumble seats and running boards them was the good old days
Knee pants and dime a dance girls oh Lord them was the good old days
Them was the good old days with Model A's and radios boh dee odee oh doh
Rah rah rumble seats and running boards them was the good old days

Everybody eatin' up everything he did them was the good old days

Well rah rah rumble seats and running boards them was the good old days
Pa pa pa pa them was the good old days...

Knee pants and dime a dance girls oh Lord them was the good old days

This is a very "G" rated version of the song!

I first remembered hearing this song at the Mizpah Hotel, Tonopah Nevada in 1970.  It was performed by a two-piece, male/female band.  They were very good.  I can recall the male playing a steel guitar.  I was in the Air Force at thee time and that particular night, my wife was working the night shift as  a dispatcher t the Nye County jail.

I cannot express how much I love this song. So bad ass. It's from Roger's album the 3rd time around. It's a shame that a label hasn't released all of his albums in a cd box set (that I know of). I have had to track down all of his records on vinyl and copy them to cd myself. Well worth ever penny and second spent though.
    Thanks jeb!

Roger Miller was a truly gifted vocalist when he was in his prime. The exuberant inventiveness and clarity of his phrasing, often utilized in mere confectionary novelty tunes like this one, suggest that he had talents that never found their proper place. One older Nashville figure was quoted as saying that Miller was both the most talented and the least disciplined of anyone he had ever known in the music business. That explains why his listeners are exasperated by a sense of promise unfulfilled

    @zoggy1950: It's a smattering of the Teens, the '20s & the 30s.

  20. s.... ....

Thanks for this, it's on my grandparents whirlitzer and my grandfather isn't doing to well... this reminds me of the good ole days with him and listening to this :)

  21. T.... ....

This is great, but you really need to add "roger miller" into the tag of this video, to make it easier to find. Thank you!

The song is definitely about the 20's and 30's. Rumble seats and running boards had their heyday in these two decades, and Rudy Vallee was a star starting around 1927. The blonde girl is an extra. She looks a tiny bit like Ginger Rogers.

  23. j.... ....

    "Atta Boy Girl"

  24. p.... ....

    Thank you.
I'd rather have the 45, what was on the other side of the record?

  25. j.... ....

I recorded it fro an original 45 R.P.M. single, on the "Smash" label. I'm sure you can find a cd compilation of Roger's hits on Amazon.

  26. p.... ....

Can I ask what record or CD this came from, I need to get this song.
