Milk Carton Kids, The - Snake Eyes Lyrics

Swing low, swing low
For to carry me home
In fire the skies of red
My breath's gone cold
A kiss from the coal
A blanket of snow overhead
Slow, holy roller
It's just rock and roll
Hold your tears
Where they've hung all these years
Down from the heavens above

Old snake eyes
You had better disguise
All that appears of thee
Pray for love
From the heavens above
Laid in the ashes below
Laid in the ashes below
Laid in the ashes below
Laid in the ashes below

Milk Carton Kids, The Snake Eyes Comments
  1. L.... G....

Is that Ethan Coen at the end of the clip?

  2. D.... C....

Wow. That’s what you call “a moment”.

  3. A.... M....

WOW...THEY ARE SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY.TRUELY PHENOMENAL PERFORMANCE.I LOVE THEIR MUSIC STYLE SO................MUCH.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  4. A.... P....

In terms of personality... and if I was forced to draw a comparison... I might compare Joey to Walter Becker and Kenneth to Donald Fagen xD

  5. J.... L....

    me too marcus, me too.

  6. K.... L....

WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE! TRUMP IS YOUR PRESIDENT!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!

  7. a.... b....

    Pure, unadulterated talent. Bravo, indeed

  8. R.... P....

    Everly Brothers reincarnated...finally!!!

  9. K.... ....

The fucking editing though. Why insert that SImon and Garfunkel quote into a spot when the song has already begun?

  10. W.... F....

What Ulysses listened to...before he derided Prometheus?.

  11. t.... ....

Mumford still cracks me up. “Do another one.”

  12. u.... ....

    Beautiful!

  13. h.... ....

Haha The one with the glasses and long hair was so good with his sarcasm that the other one was like: "dude? wtf?". 0:22

  14. K.... ....

Two things I love about this clip- the extremely deadpan humor at the very beginning (seriously, I almost couldn't tell if he was joking or not), and the moment during the performance when the camera panned to show everyone watching & listening. Chris Thile grinning like crazy, and Marcus Mumford in tears... wow. I must say this song didn't do much for me, but if they had everyone in the room so connected like that, they must be good.

    K.... ....

You should listen to the rest of their music, they're a gift to the music industry. Super lovely and funny guys too.

    K.... ....

I'd like to! Since watching this clip I've seen a couple other of their performances on YouTube and I enjoyed them.

    K.... ....

Two years later: I've seen the Milk Carton Kids twice in one month, will gladly see them as many times as I can in the future, and am completely in love with all their albums. They are, in fact, good. <3

  15. I.... Y....

Here I dare say those guys are way better than Simon and Garfunkel. Not that I would care about it at all. But you read it all the time. How about just enjoying their talent like Mumford does ...like Chris Thile does ...

  16. R.... L....

Still can't get over the fact that they had Marcus choked up like that

  17. h.... ....

Nope thay are Kenneth and Joey the Milk Carton Kids ... snake eyes

  18. R.... ....

    Chills.

  19. Y.... ....

Great song. Almost sounds like it should be sung in spanish.

  20. P.... V....

    Shovel and rope

  21. V.... E....

Saw them again just this evening.... Incredible, as always!!

  22. M.... ....

There's just so much respect for one another in that room

  23. n.... a....

Joe's suit is so great. Somebody ask Joe who makes his suits.

  24. C.... A....

Damn. When the Punch Brothers are in the room and they are wiping away tears, you've really brought it home. Bravo! Can't wait to finally see you guys live this Thursday. *hug, hug, little kiss, big kiss*

  25. u.... 7....

Man, they stole the show with this.

  26. S.... C....

I saw these guys live - Fantastic!!

  27. V.... E....

Their dry wit and devastating sarcasm is what gives me life. I saw them live last year and nearly peed my pants. Also, their talent is just mind blowing. Their music is GORGEOUS.

    V.... E....

Yes. Everything they do seems effortlessly genuine and natural. And without the dry, self deprecating wit there incredible singing and playing might seem pretentious. The context they create with their gentle (and hilarious) banter is a note perfect way of stripping the music of any sense of overwrought self importance. Really, really like these dudes.

    V.... E....

I enjoyed them live so much. I cried it was so gorgeous. And they are hysterically funny

  28. G.... R....

Damn. Those are some nice sounding guitars.

  29. R.... I....

Awesome, even Chris Thile is there!

  30. A.... F....

What's amazing here is their approach to this song is loose but they are so tight in their singing and their guitar work. As awesome a duo as S&G.

    A.... F....

    Who are they?

  31. B.... F....

I wonder if they'll ever release these rehearsal sessions as an album in itself?

  32. J.... C....

A lot of moist eyes during this song including, I have to admit, my own.

  33. E.... O....

Marcus Mumford Crying at 1:30 OMG.

  34. A.... C....

This is the most amazing performance I've seen in a very long time. It just moves me and restores my faith in music...

    A.... C....

This clip is what brought me to them. My aunt showed it to me and I nearly started crying. Tonight I saw them for the second time and I cannot wait to see them again. Gorgeous!!!!!

  35. z.... t....

I think that this is the only time mr. Davis smiled in the entire documentary.

  36. M.... G....

This music will take you to somewhere haven't been in a while.  The emotion is different for everyone, but this song and their voices and guitar work grabs at my soul......I got tears too...........can't wait to hear them live........

  37. C.... D....

    Love this. Just fantastic.

  38. R.... ....

God, the song, the emotions, Marcus. This video is beautiful.

  39. M.... M....

    Lovely!

  40. B.... S....

They are not entirely old school.  If you listen to their three albums, you will hear some Gomez, Ryan Adams, and Sufjan Stevens as well.

  41. S.... L....

This is my favorite song by them, what a haunting melody done with such harmony it gives goosebumps the first time you you listen, wow :-)

  42. A.... ....

    wheres the breakdown

    A.... ....

    I like jokes

  43. s.... c....

I fell in love with The Milk Carton Kids after seeing the Showtime special Another Day Another Time. I have their music on repeat 24/7. I bought tickets for their Austin show in May. They are so divine. I'm totally obsessed.

    s.... c....

I read this and went, "Wait a minute-- Aunt Sue?!" 👏😍🙏👍

  44. J.... H....

    beyond amazing!

  45. A.... C....

    Wow.  Thanks.

  46. T.... ....

To see musicians being affected by music is such an amazing thing. Rarely do we get to see this. There is a reason that the Milk Carton Kids are at the top of my "Best Of" list for 2013. This song is one of them.  Simply Amazing.

  47. w.... ....

Marcus Mumford was moved to tears

    w.... ....

Mumford can't believe how lucky he is.

    w.... ....

When a room full of musicians who are all beyond reproach in talent ask someone to play another song. You know they are amazing, I don’t think there is a better compliment than that.

  48. D.... D....

    Yes...brilliant

  49. C.... R....

This was a highlight of Another Day, Another Time that aired on Showtime last weekend. Produced by T Bone Burnett and the Coen Brothers. It is a music special not to be missed.

  50. A.... F....

Kenneth's smile just made me beam too.

  51. A.... ....

    Chris Thile likes it. :D

    A.... ....

They toured as the openers for Punch Brothers this last year, what an awesome show that was.

  52. J.... H....

Simon & Garfunkel?  Yes.  But, do I hear some strong Everly Brothers influence in there ...

    J.... H....

Lots of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings too -- the guitar work is very siimilar to David's, but I agree the vocals are more like S&G and/or the Everlys.

    J.... H....

    Ooohhh yeeaaahh

    J.... H....

I don’t think they’re intentionally influenced just coincidentally happen to sound similar

  53. J.... O....

    Brilliant.
