The Oils with yet another very danceable political track that pulls no punches lyrically. Has there ever been a better band that melded musicality, commentary and rhythm better than this band? The Clash have some very strong songs that you can really groove too, but the Oils just dare you to stay in your seat (try sitting through "Power and the Passion" off of probably their best album - "10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1") with music that at first might not sound heavily musical because you are listening to the words (this song here is a great 'anti-nationalist' song, in the best possible sense), but let's face it - this band had no weak link in their delivery and ability. Their harmony vocals are indelible. The Clash are untouchable overall, but that "overall" is made up of many specific categories. In this category, the Oils just burned it.
@dropway9 Yep, fantastic stuff! Love the exuberant melody in this and their 90s stuff in general. Magnificent jangly guitar too, which is a specialty of the best Aussie bands like the Oils and The Church.
d9: "10,9,8" is probably THE OILS' 4th best album---after (in this order) "D&D," "BSM," and "Red Sails." Mystifies me when people think their 1st good album is their best! Alas, PG's vocals are an acquired taste, somewhere between a bleating goat and Jagger's Aussie cousin; they WERE the weak link until... say... "10,9,8."
