Midnight Oil - Jimmy Sharman's Boxers Lyrics
From the red dust north of Dalmore Downs
Sharman's tents roll into town
Twelve will face the auctioneer
Sharman's Boxers stand their ground
Their days are darker than your nights
Children broken from their dreams
But they won't be the first to fall
Fighting in the spotlight
Eye's turn blacker than their skin
For Jimmy Sharman's boxers
It's no better if you win
Standing in the darkness
Lined up waiting for the bell
The days are wasted drinking
Why are we fighting for this?
Why are you paying for this?
You pay to see me fall like shrapnel
To the floor
What is the reason for this?
There is a reason for this?
What is the reason they keep coming back for more?
The blows now bring him to his knees
But still the crowd calls out for more
The drums are burning in his ears
The man keeps counting out the score

Midnight Oil Jimmy Sharman's Boxers Comments
80's high skool mates album😆😆😆😆😆🙋💞💞💞💞💞💞💖
Masterpiece! God the atmosphere of this record was so grim and compelling, and this song really encapsulated it.
incredible song. they really went all out with “10 to 1” and “Red Sails”. amazing works of studio art
Stellar. Stereo on analog is truly magnificent. This is ok too.
"Their days are darker than your nights. But they won't be the first to fall" breaks my heart every damn time! It just builds and builds, getting darker and darker.
James Wilson children broken from their dreams. Very powerful.
Greatest guitar duo ever.
I love this song. Even though what it was inspired on is a complete lie, i guess this could be for any shameless exploitation.
Not so son... fact check...
I know one of Sharman's (surviving) boxers. It is no lie!
Oil’s best song - memories of the live concerts in OZ - classic brilliance 😊
Mid Night Oil brilliance - classic song - classic era
One of my favourite songs
GOOD GESTURES
I had Red sails on cassette when I was13. Played it over and over. saw them at the Myer music bowl the next year. I was blown away. Still one of the best performances I've ever seen
What is the reason we keep coming back 'fo mo'?!?
is that the red sails in the sunset?
one of the best live bands of the era, still remember seeing them for the first time at the Myer music bowl, simply brilliant.......
Mad Song Thanks
Would have loved to seen this band at the time of this album, Species was there last real harder style album, after that they slowed it down....
It's no better if you win is it Peter ?!!!!
Jimmy Sharman boxer's es un tema muy bueno, fuerte y profundo. El álbum es estupendo y junto a esta rola le agrego "Minutes to midnight" y mi favorita "Sleep"
A very nice, powerful song warning about the dangers of shameless exploitation. Oddly enough, the song was inspired by an account of Sharman that turned out to be a lie. No factual evidence was ever made that Sharman ever shamelessly exploited his boxers.
somewhat like dog fighting, i suppose.
Super power ful music./
What a powerful song
Yup. Da Oils.
I was digging in sum crates at a local goodwill n found this album with this very crazy cover.. Had to get it.. Many samples ..good album.
best song they did for years. After 10-1 They kinda lost me. But this song, this song is great.

G'day mate! Celà me rappelle mes voyages en Australie dans les années 80. Quels merveilleux souvenirs.

I bought this album on cassette at a field trip when I was in high school. I ran into a McCrory`s five and dime and found it for a dollar in the bargain bin.Lucky me.
