Midnight Oil - Blue Sky Mine Lyrics
[Spoken]
An Exxon oil tanker (CSR Company faced tough questioning at the company's annual)
From Geelong (payouts to workers affected by asbestos)
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
(There'll be pay in your pocket tonight)
My gut is wrenched out, it is crunched up and broken
My life that is lived is no more than a token
Who'll strike the flint upon the stone and tell me why?
If I yell out at night there's a reply of blue silence
The screen is no comfort, I can't speak my sentence
They blew the lights at heaven's gate and I don't know why
But if I work all day on the blue sky mine
(There'll be food on the table tonight)
Still I walk up and down on the blue sky mine
(There'll be pay in your pocket tonight)
The candy store paupers lie to the shareholders
They're crossing their fingers, they pay the truth makers
The balance sheet is breaking up the sky
So I'm caught at the junction, still waiting for medicine
The sweat of my brow keeps on feeding the engine
Hope the crumbs in my pocket can keep me for another night
And if the blue sky mining company won't come to my rescue
If the sugar refining company won't save me
Who's gonna save me?
Who's gonna save me?
Who's gonna save me?
But if I work all day on the blue sky mine
(There'll be food on the table tonight)
And if walk up and down on the blue sky mine
(There'll be pay in your pocket tonight)
And some have sailed from a distant shore
(And the company takes what the company wants)
And nothing's as precious as a hole in the ground
Who's gonna save me?
Who's gonna save me?
I pray that sense and reason brings us in
Who's gonna save me?
Who's gonna save me?
We got nothing to fear
In the end the rain comes down
In the end the rain comes down
Washes clean the streets of the blue sky town

Midnight Oil Blue Sky Mine Comments
Right wing creeps hate this band nowadays. Just goes to show how ahead of their time they were.
God I love this band. I lived in New Zealand and Australia when they were big and didn't appreciate them at the time, but now I realise what pioneers they were in their call for justice and exposing the wrongs in Oz.
Excelente música
Wonderful 1990 classic! This is also a good tune to roller skate to!
check this out exitmatrixinfo . I pray for sense and reason. Who's gonna save me...
This song is burned into my memory from the time I was doing my Combat Diver course in the military. On our long distance open ocean swims that could take up to 3 hours depending on weather conditions, I used to look up at the blue sky and run this song through my mind over and over. Thanks Midnight Oil for helping me make through a tough course. I loved the ocean and have been trying to help save it since then. Regards, Dano.
GREAT!!!!
Whos gonna Shave me.

I’m a huge capitalist and conservative. However,I’ve seen the dark side of corporate America as well. There is a definite need for unions when the workers are exploited to the point of death!
respect while you are a conservative you can see good things about the other side
Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?
But we like crumbs on table ..

*.."And the company takes what the company wants. And nothing's as precious, as a hole in the ground."* The Oils were and are icons of Australian rock.
Nothing as precious as a hole in the ground
Capital has no regard for human life. As it was with the blue sky mine, so it is with climate change. Climate change is a crisis capitalism can't solve.
Workers are entitled to all they produce ✊
pray for the rain come down at last
I’m an American and I love Aussie bands such as Midnight Oil and INXS
G'Day mate from Down Under! I see you have a very good taste in music. 😎🖒
A great song about the sophisticated form of slavery in which we live our lives and that we are taught to call "freedom."
Hugh Jackman used to play drums for Midnight Oil? How bout thet
Yeah Midnight Oil aren’t a One Hit Wonder no matter what the American music charts say.
I'm not a great fan of Midnight Oil but they did draw everyone's attention to the dangers of Asbestos mining in Wittenoom Western Australia! I visited Wittenoom in 2003 and saw signs down by the Creek reading "Caution Asbestos Tailings Present"! There were 20 people still living in Wittenoom in 2003 now there are only 3!😒👷⛏️⚒️⛰️🇦🇺
Hi there. Please tell me:
1) You're female
2) You're about 30-40ish
3) You're single
4) You wanna marry a nice West Aussie. 😍
Prophetic.
Never realized how much this sounds like Wall of Voodoo. (but more vocal range)
January 2020 : My thoughs to the australian people and to those thousand and thousand of animals dying in giant wildfires
SPlissken26 A lot of fires are started by what we call dry lighting . That is electrical storms without rain . Some are accidental,a car crash started a large blaze last month. Once someone on a farm was angle grinding and sparks from the grinder were enough . And yes there are some wankers out there just trying to get some kind of kicks. OILS FOREVER , love from Aus.
sadness.
@Ian Giles yep, the other factors just make it worse.
The real reasons why the government lit the fires is The Clara plan
Look it up Clara plan.com
Put them all in Prison!!!! Pray for Beautiful Australia🙏
@world globe that's now some telco
Marcou uma geração
Came out in 1990, then disappeared, as 'Alt Rock' radio shifted to 'Grunge, Grunge...'
You got the Word out and the necessary research to stop the mining for abstous. Thanks

Hoje ele mora no Céu.
#MIDNIGHTOIL The One of a Kind Band ! ! !

I was there- in Wittenoom, the place the song is about, a couple years ago.
If there is an eerie place on earth, this is it.
Beautiful to die for, too.

the company takes what the company wants in 2019
Such a powerful song. I remember hearing Midnight Oil when they came on the scene in the 80's. If Australia has a who's who of great music and musicians, these guys need to be there.

Life of johnny sins
Past: music industry
Present: porn industry
The locomotive in the clip is a WAGR X class and one of their tasks was to make deliveries to the James Hardies factory in Welshpool. While sitting there waiting to unload the locomotive traction motor cooling fans would blow the asbestos from between the railway tracks up into the air and into the non air conditioned cab. A number of loco drivers and firemen got lung cancer because of this.
This is so fucking great. Good times.
See... This isn't senseless, violent protest, this is the kind of proper, ethically correct protests we need today. It attracts audiences and really sends a strong message of protest about the poor working conditions that workers across the world have to endure due to companies placing their shareholders and income before the safety of their workers.
Who's gonna shave me?
Great song. They are good at that. High energy, message driven; charged with emotion; fueled with empathy and talent.
These modern day climate change activists have got nothing here is a band that got change though hard work and dedication if u want to change the world look up to these fellas and really do something

"THe company takes what the company wants and there's nothing as precious as a hole in the ground" gives me the chills.
Such a brilliant band. They are a part of Australia’s culture. I saw them live in Derby and Broome. A remarkable band who stood up for what are now issues felt by a very large number of Australians. Midnight Oil must never be forgotten as having bravely played their part.
Australian REM and Corgan.
I can’t believe this song came out almost 30 years ago in 1990. Second best song next to Beds Are Burning
There are bad songs and there's music like this. Not my cup of tea and I personally don't like it but I can appreciate it for being a great song. I can almost like

Hey, hey-hey hey
There'll be food on the table tonight
Hey, hey, hey hey
There'll be pay in your pocket tonight
My gut is wrenched out it is crunched up and broken
A life that is led is no more than a token
Who'll strike the flint upon the stone and tell me why
If I yell out at night there's a reply of bruised silence
The screen is no comfort I can't speak my sentence
They blew the lights at heaven's gate and I don't know why
But if I work all day at the blue sky mine
(There'll be food on the table tonight)
Still I walk up and down on the blue sky mine
(There'll be pay in your pocket tonight)
The candy store paupers lie to the share holders
They're crossing their fingers they pay the truth makers
The balance sheet is breaking up the sky
So I'm caught at the junction still waiting for medicine
The sweat of my brow keeps on feeding the engine
Hope the crumbs in my pocket can keep me for another night
And if the blue sky mining company won't come to my rescue
If the sugar refining company won't save me

Who's gonna save me?

In the end the rain comes down
Washes clean, the streets of a blue sky town
I'm French and I listened a lot to that stuff when I was a teen, but did not get the lyrics. I like it even more now that I do understand.
