Midler, Bette - Mambo Italiano Lyrics

A boy went back to Napoli,
because he missed the scenery,
the native dancers and the charming songs.
But wait a minute, something's wrong.

Hey! Hey!
Now it's hey Mambo, Mambo Italiano!
Hey Mambo, Mambo Italiano!
Go, go, Joe, you mixed up Sigiliano.
All you Calabrese do the mambo like crazy.

And hey Mambo! Don't wanna tarantella,
Hey Mambo! No more-a moozzarella.
Hey Mambo! Hey Mambo Italiano.
Try an enchilada with a fish-a-barcalada.

Hey goombah!
I love-a how you dance rumba.
But take-a some advice paisano,
learn how to mambo.
If you're gonna be a square,
you're never gonna go nowhere.

Hey Mambo, Mambo Italiano!
Hey Mambo, hey Mambo Italiano!
Go, go, Joe, shake-a like a Gioviano.
Hello quesadicha,
you getta happy in the feets-a
when you Mambo Italiano!

Shake-a baby, shake-a,
'cause I love-a when you take-a me.

Hey Jagool!
You don't-a have to go to school,
just make a little beef flambino.
It's-a like-a vino.
Kid you're good-lookin',
but you don't know what's-a cookin' till you
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

Shake-a baby, shake-a,
'cause I love it when you take-a me
by the pizzeria down-a where I'm gonna be-a.
Don't ya tell your mama.
Mama's gonna tell-a papa.
There's-a nothin' to it.
Come on baby let's-a do it!

Hey Mambo, Mambo Italiano!
Hey Mambo, Mambo Italiano!
Go, go, Joe, you mixed up Sigiliano.
It's-a so delish-a, everybody gonna preshi-ada.
Mambo Italiano!

Do the mambo!

  32. E.... ....

I've always enjoyed this version. I've been hearing it at dances for some time, but didn't know it was Bette until I found it here. I think she sings it great and I like the arrangement.. BTW, Rosemary hated this song. The story I've heard is that sometime in the 60s she was performing in Vegas doing mostly standards. Some yahoo in the audience yelled, "Mambo Italiano!". Rosemary shot back, "You sing the f*%king song!", walked off the stage and quit show buisiness for ten years.

    E.... ....

Rosmary was right about her characterization of the song.

  33. R.... P....

    tykkään!!

  34. s.... a....

most people switch the gender word depending on who sings it its very common nowadays

  58. c.... ....

anche per me questa e' la versione piu' bella:mette una voglia irrefrenabile di ballare!

  59. F.... D....

@tinroofbusted "If you're gonna be a square, you ain't gonna go nowhere"
    Enough said !!!

  60. t.... ....

Well this is a good version, I still like Rosemarys version better. As far as the Olive Garden reference,. Ducks If any part of their restaurant is italian its most likely the dishwasher "Enzo"
Go to Italia and enjoy real Italian cooking
They are not an American over the top cheese fest with weak pomadori sauce
with no Garlic and no real Basil and true italian flair. I know, I lived it and traveled through Italia and I have the Chefs Papers to prove this. Food is a joy to give and enjoy

  61. L.... J....

I'll always associate this song with Dean Martin and Rosemary Clooney, but I thought Bette Midler did a good job on it.

  62. D.... W....

I love Bette, but give me Rosemary Clooney singing this one.

  63. T.... ....

    absolutely fab

  64. T.... ....

  69. D.... ....

It is just good for chachacha.

  70. p.... l....

Trovo forte la somiglianza fisica tra Bette Midler e Donatella Moretti! Non lo trovate anche voi?

  71. J.... C....

    Hey mamboo : D

  72. i.... ....

I love Bette and Rosemary....This is a great update of a classic!

  73. L.... e....

Thanks for posting this! This is the danceable version of Mambo Italiano!
    Bette Midler is still HOT!

    L.... e....

hey ANY version is danceable it's a danceable song!!

  74. M.... C....

    Love you bette midler\

  75. s.... ....

Bette Midler did this cover as a TRIBUTE to Rosemary Clooney. Both amazing women :)

  76. d.... ....

one of the best versions of this song. and I don't particularly dig Miss M

  77. N.... ....

Look up Tech N9ne "imma tell" he sampled it

  78. h.... ....

Great cover by Bette, this track finds a solid groove and has some nice textures. I know a lot of the people posting here don't like this version, but word is that Rosemary Clooney absolutely HATED recording the Italian songs. She was pretty much forced into that material by A&R schmucks at Columbia like Mitch Miller (don't get me started on him). Listen to this whole album, it's actually very tasteful, and respectfully done. Thanks for the post - Rosemary & Bette, both national treasures!!

  79. V.... ....

Very good version of the song. Rosemary Clooney's original in my opinion is a classic.

  80. S.... ....

Aye, but to cover something that was PERFECT is pointless. There's no different approach you can take to make it better, so why bother? Sure, I guess this is Bette's version, but I would much rather listen to Rosemary's (b/c it's perfect...).

  81. P.... ....

I have to agree this sucks...

  82. s.... ....

I love this version, actually :)

  83. c.... ....

    terrible version

  84. d.... ....

I figured out what is bugging me about this version of the song. She is pronouncing the words too clearly. It doesn't have that slightly drunk sound that Dean and Rosemary both brought to it.

  85. S.... ....

I love Bette and I love this song, but there's just no need to remake what was done to perfection the first time around...If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  86. s.... ....

Bette's voice isn't great... but the background music is campy to the point where Rosemary Clooney's remains would be covering what's left of her ears.

  87. K.... W....

I love how she smiles with her voice. Its likee whoaaa. =]

  88. j.... h....

    shaking my hips right now

  89. Q.... P....

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS VERSION! :-D

  90. J.... M....

    he he..mambo :D

  91. d.... ....

Everyone has their own opinion. My opinion is Bette Midler is amazing. I love this song regardless of whether or not she is or isn't italian.

  92. C.... H....

Does she need to be? Following this logic, we should only sing the song of our own ethnicity and not enjoy those of others?!?!?

  93. N.... ....

There was a time when people said "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". I love both versions and I salute Bette for not trying to do an exact remake, that would flatter neither her nor the great Mrs. Clooney.

  94. M.... M....

Come on people, it isn't that bad. Bette does a good job with all of her songs. Personally, Rosemary's version is my favorite, but that doesn't mean that this sucks. She did a fine job.

  95. w.... ....

    i love this song

  96. a.... ....

This is the worst one!!! Deano killed it.

  97. 9.... ....

I really like Bette, but much prefer the version by Rosemary Clooney. Maybe because I grew up with the fabulous voice of Rosemary.
