i have no idea why, but this always sounded to me like she was singing from the point of view of a ghost in love with a human who can't see her. she tags along with them as they go about their life, unaware that she's watching and trying to interact with them, and because of that she still feels lonely.
a bit of a reach, but it's one way i've always interpreted it.

This song reminds me of the time before I started to dislike my dad. I'm still trying to heal and learn to think about all the good versus the bad. He bought me this album on a trip to the US right after it came out. Now that I'm an adult I realize no one is perfect, least of all our parents. I need to accept him for who he is, not who I needed/wanted him to be for me.

I was born in '97 and bought this album in '03 at the age of 5, along with Avril Lavigne's "Let Go". Needless to say I've been hooked on these two ever since. This song brings back memories of buying and enjoying CDs and me putting them in at night. Ah, nostalgia.

I first heard it from my sister's mp3 player when I was 8 years old. Time flies............... 

Indeed. The difference is Avril surpassed Michelle Branch when it comes to popularity back in early 2000s. I wonder if Michelle branch is still active in the music these days.

Can't believe this song was released 10 years ago... This entire album brings back so many memories... Love it so much!

Me and my counsellor came up with a thesis project. After all the pain and shame baggage that came with a bad upbringing, we decided that we're going to find me a man for Christmas. I hope to find him way before then. But when I do find him, we're going to walk around a park, holding hands, while singing this song.
