Michael W. Smith - Lamu Lyrics

Here we are on a boat out on the sea
Off the coast of Africa
Heading for peaceful shores
With a cast of strangers
To an island hideaway
I hear you telling me
Of the place we soon will be
A rebirth from life's demise
Where the world is still - it's ideal
Anything you dream is real
It's Hotel Paradise
And you say it's nice (when you run to)

[CHORUS]
Lamu - far away
Leave the pain far behind you
Hoping it won't find you
Lamu - far away
You say it's there that you can run
From the one inside of you

So here we are on an island in the sea
Near the coast of Africa
And when it's right - Lamu nights
They can be so inviting
Heaven here on earth
But here on earth
But I hear you telling
This is everything you need
Well, I don't think it's true
Cause the way you feel isn't real
You attempt to try and fill
The void that's digging thru
And it's killing you (when you run to)

[CHORUS]
Lamu - far away
Tho' that pain was behind you
It can even find you in
Lamu - far away
Because you never can run
From the one inside of you

I really feel this is Michael's best work. He had a lot of really good work before and after this release but this entire record is quintessential christian pop and changed that market forever. If you listen to the way this record is put together... everything from the lyrical content to the production. One track on another, on another and so on. There are so many layers to this recording that just come at you from all directions. Complexity that you can maybe only hear to it's best when you listen through headphones on vinyl maybe? I had this on tape and wore it out. I then got it on CD and wow... this was, I think, his best work. Michael's work has many different phases to it. He's more in a praise and worship phase now but when he was writing pure christian pop music, it was the best and he blazed the trail. Most mainstream pop at the time this record came out wasn't this complex or good sounding. You can hear Michael's influences behind this recording and his love for producing cutting-edge sounding pop music. I wish he's do a tour today of just this records material. I understand that it would be different then the 80's original tour but I think a lot of younger fans dont know this side of Michael's work and it's a shame because I truly believe it's his best.

This music was far better than the one he's producing today, I don't criticize the lyrics, only the music.

Gosto muito desse álbum. É bom ouvir no fone de ouvido e sentir as sensações de cada música. Michael caprichou no instrumental de cada música.

why doesn't he play like this now?

    C.... ....

Well for one, he's turning 60 in October and his voice isn't quite what it use to be when he was in his 20's and 30's. Also, just like any musician, he had to adapt and change his style to the times. I personally love all of his music, so while i do really enjoy his 80's and 90's stuff, it's all great music to me :)

Worship music ruined a lot of good artists.
