damn... when will everybody realize that Michael McDonald is the worst singer that killed the Doobie Brothers, and now he's killing a Stevie Winwood classic...

Here's the thing SladderBux, The Doobies were at their peak during my junior high thru high school years. During the pre-Michael McDonald era their song writing and instrumental performances were strong, but between Tom (whom I've met) and Patrick and the boys the vocals were solid but not amazing, or world-class. You take Minute by Minute, holy shit that album still holds up VERY well today. Though there are numerous factors, Michael's vocals are the NUMBER ONE reason why. Lots of great music from The Doobies before & during the Michael McDonald eras… the best of the best though has Michael's keys & vocals all over it.

I wouldn't say he's the worst singer, certainly not. Or that he ruined the Doobie Brothers. But I would agree that Stevie Winwood sings this song so much better. In fact the original is just better everywhere. I have much respect for Michael's solo stuff and he's added many a fine backing vocal on a lot of tracks over the years..

I love Fourplay. I love Michael McDonald. I love Steve Winwood's solo music from the 80s & 90s. So while I like the original recording of this tune with Steve's voice and the Yamaha CS-80 synth parts better, this cover is fresh, a little lighter and very nice overall.

I like both versions of this song, but I lean toward this one. In the end though, it's just a great song.
