Shelley Marie Songwriter He is amazing!! I've grown up listening to his empowering music since the 90's and, you should definitely see him live! I've been blessed to see him many times in SF, at festivals and at the Filmore and he is awesome! I also got to meet him casually after the show, & he was so nice, kind and really personable. I love him because he actually sings songs about life and our country, that are empowering, inspirational & motivating.

He used to come to Reno every year, but it's been about 4 years since he's come here, even though the audience was heavily packed, and I'm sure no one ever threatened him. He's from Oakland, and he's of mixed race. He writes and sings wonderful songs, but what's probably sad for him is that all audiences are 99.99% white. Black folks rarely come to see him, at least here in Reno.

That lyric only happens once, but IMO it's A+. It seems like it was easy to come up with when you already have it and you're just comparing it to the other lyrics, but really that takes a lot of time and/or brilliance to just slip in there. A flower in the gutter isn't the image that would come to mind easily if you were just sitting in your basement, smoking weed and pruping out songs. Those kind of details are what separate the good tries from the good songs.
