Michael Franks - Satisfaction Guaranteed Lyrics

If you shine me on it'll haunt you
Let's play me and you don't you want to
Take a great big bite of the apple
What the hell
Might as well
Let's play pin the tail on the bunny
Let's play grizzly bear finding honey
Let the lukewarm milk of precaution
Be spilt
It's full tilt

Lady, you've been too often broken-hearted
But you can't stop love once it's started
Lady, you've found the medicine you need
Satisfaction guaranteed

When I saw you there in your danskin
Then the wolf jumped out of the lambskin
And a blush came over your cheeks
In the room
Filled with freaks
Can you hear these thoughts I've been thinking
Let's escape all this smoking and drinking
Let's drive out to the river of sin
And dive in
Skin to skin

Lady, you've been too often broken-hearted
But you can't stop love once it's started
Lady, you've found the medicine you need
Satisfaction guaranteed

It was 1993 and I`d just finished a six-year stint in the US Navy. I was going to community college in Orlando and decided to work at a CD store (yeah, they still had those then) basically so I could discover new music and get a 70% employee discount on it .
Anyhow, there was this other white guy working there who was a real jazz snob (for example he preferred Miles Davis`s iconoclastic `On the Corner` album to Miles`s classic `Kind of Blue`, just so he could be a snob about how people didn`t `get` Miles like he did. Got the picture?
So this guy, the pony-tailed assistant manager, interrupted a conversation that a black co-worker friend of mine, Darryl, were having. Now, Darryl, like me, didn`t have any hang-ups about musical stereotypes. So the white dude interrupts my and Darryl`s conversation about how great Michael Franks was.
The white dude couldn`t believe it. He looked at Darryl and said something to the effect of `Darryl, you`re black! You should know Michael Franks isn`t really jazz! it`s pop-jazz crap. Not like Miles Davis!`
Darryl, just looked at him and said basically `Get off your high horse, man. Michael Franks is a poet in the field of jazz. And he`s no square. He talks about getting f****d up, hookers, relationships, psychology, painting and literature. And he makes it rhyme in ways you wouldn`t expect. And you know what else? He only plays with the best jazz guys out there.`
So: anyone who would label Michael Franks a jazz `sellout`...just remember what my friend Darryl said.
