I've been chewing Michael Franks songs since my early teens in the far East. Saw him on tour with the Rippingtons in Toronto in 1991... wow!!! sweetest ride I'd ever been.

He's able to extract silence from the air and create sound.

Understated, underestimated, midunderstood and most unusual. Michael has always been in a class all by himself.Who else combines such playful creative lyrics with such sophisticated  and moody smooth jazz tunes. Some have the top notch lyrics (Simon, Dylan, etc) but they don't do jazz. Not just the lyrics but how they jiving with the syncopation brilliance of "Meet me in the Deerpark". So yes, a class all his own and doing it for decades. What a champ!

Long ago I saw him concert here in Phoenix. I wrote him on a match book while I stood in line to get in that I loved his recent album, Sleeping Gypsy and it's Brazilian Samba sound. To my delight he evidently read my little matchbook message and spoke from the stage regarding his recent vacation in Brazil, the Jobim influence, I think he met him and what inspiration it was for him. Have loved his music for years. He is a consummate artist and a breath of fresh air in music. Thank you for being so original, Mr. Michael Franks. What fun listening to your songs!

I postponed listening to this album for many years. Have no idea why. Want to indulge Michael in a timely manner. Afraid that he will not be releasing something new. So, now this album, 9 years old, is actually new to me. Summer is around the corner - Michael's music - how appropriate!!!
