MF Doom - Notebook 03 Lyrics

DOOM get rude with the dude off CHiPs
The mood switch, he chewed off strips of a Broodwich
Danger make a groove off a glitch
Major boo booty twitch and a crew rich bitch
Always wanted to say that
Ever since the days of hallways taunting a stray cat
The one he often frequently slapped around
All the while waited and graduated cap and gown
Hated the rap sound, debated the crap
Until he felt he had it mapped down
Enough to have the game trapped and bound
Scratched in the crown was the names of lames who yapped a noun
Or verb for that matter
Had no data for a herb who chat chatter
Oh, Erik Estrada
Fat rat, the mask made 'em batty as a mad hatter

Known for his absurd word choices
And will ignore you if you ask him if he heard voices
Look, the energy is crazy
Far as he was concerned the enemy was lazy
Ahem, your attention please
Freeze, he came to seize the free cheese
Before he flees to Belize
In case he forgot to mention, squeeze these
Just keep it on a need to know basis
They knew he was a negro so no need to show faces
Back in the days of no laces
On a slow pace they used to say he might could go places
Ehh, whatever their case is
The card he played was ace of spades, but no races
A spastic, some called loony
When he spit a tune sarcastic as Paul Mooney

  1. Q.... B....

I love how at the beginning of the verse he says " the dude of chips" then at the end of the verse hes like " oh eric Estrada" like it was on the tip of his tongue an it just came to him. Its like hes just talkin to you. Doom is a bit wordy, but the substance is always there...thats why hes thw best to me.

Daniel Dumile is one of the highest tier modern-day poets of our generation. We are blessed that he has dedicated his life to share his linguistic artwork with us. I know he'll be too busy to read this, but from the bottom of my heart; thank you DOOM.

    n.... a....

DOOM is the greatest ever. Admittedly, his lyrics make me cry because words can't even describe how blown away I am by his whole style

  24. Z.... ....

Was no one else like WHOA when he said bitch? haha

  25. C.... _....

This might come off as pandering but, I love and give an open ear to everything he spits. I know there is talent in Hip-Hop but, I thank my lucky stars I was around for Wu, 8-Ball & M.J.G, OutKast, and most definitely the one that only uses capitol letters when he spells his name.

I'm in tears bro. This shit is so genius I cannot believe someone could even write something this level of mastery. DOOM is the best artist I ever heard in my life. The fact that Pharoahe Monch was replaced as my number 1 favorite MC. I became a DOOM stan in 2009. His style is so unique and creative, it's phenomenal.

  64. D.... Z....

Hes been my favorite artist since I was 13 im now 22. Growing up as a suburban white kid, DOOM has opened my eyes to all possibilities beyond the linear reality tunnel the media would like to keep our minds in. Much love to him and all his fans!

    D.... Z....

White 37 year old here, I definitely feel what u said. Growing up in the South during the Louisiana rap invasion of the late 90's, I was at a crossroads when it came 2 Hip-Hop. However, I always had Wu,Del, and Tribe. Then I found MF and eventually all his aliases and that's when life started making sense again

Jesus. Those bars. Still on another level.

    k.... u....

    Thank you 🙏

    k.... u....

    brood witch bud

    k.... u....

love how he says, "the dude of chips" on the first bar then towards the end of the verse he just says oh, erik estrada, out of nowhere, i just imagine him writing the verse and out of nowhere he just remembers his name and decided to put it in there.

    k.... u....

so dope, it's like he only remembered because he said something that rhymed. GOAT

  70. M.... V....

And he'll ignore you if you ask him if he heard voices........

  71. E.... C....

No other MCs rapping over Starship Enterprise sounds

    E.... C....

All the ones they say could was influenced by DOOM!!

    E.... C....

Doom was before anyone else in the rap game with more intelligent and intriguing verses that actually meant something, he is the word playing legend no one could compare too

    E.... C....

Added to when he used to tap over Godzilla sounds. Ain't no rapper doing that either.

    E.... C....

Give a chance to Clippin. tho'

    E.... C....

    Lukas Johnson lol
Puff daddy already did that in 1999 with his song "come with me"

  72. L.... ....

needs a name - imma call it mooney

  73. J.... B....

I heard Doom shout out Danger Mouse so I'm assuming he produced the track. That would explain why the joints pretty flame. Would love to see more collabs between Doom and Danger. Their one album together is a classic and Dangermouse doing straight hip hop production doesn't happen nearly enough in general. The album he did with Jemini is a slept on classic. He's also done some amazing production on A$AP Rocky's albums. Anyway Doom and Danger are a match made in heaven and I think both are always looking to innovate and do new things and both possess the sheer talent to achieve and accomplish their mutual goals of perpetual innovation and advancement/improvement. If they joined forces I could see them releasing music for decades all while pushing the bounds of MCing and production.

"Known for his absurd word choices
Will ignore you if you ask em if he heard voices
Look the energy was crazy, as far as he was concerned the enemy was to lazy"

    Doom to these wack rappers

    G.... ....

Was literally just listening to that song lol

  78. M.... P....

production is a little obscure imo, distracts from the vocals

    M.... P....

I think its really cool don't get me wrong but it kinda overpowers the vocals at points. Just my opinion.

    M.... P....

That doesn't mean the beat is whack, it just means it's not mixed well enough. It could have been some record label or studio chump did the mixing, ain't DOOM or Danger's fault. Even then, it's not that bad. The more I listen to the song, the better it gets, like most of DOOM's joints.

    M.... P....

sometimes its ok to distract from the vocals not in this example but in Crosshairs by mf doom its perfect

    M.... P....

the beat is dope cause it's different and weird.

    M.... P....

I don't think it's obsure I love the track but, maybe production seems a little disjointed. Just remember this is a B-SIDE and God knows when it came to fruition. Doom's catalog is huge and I imagine sometimes they just want it to hit the streets for the diehard DOOM army LOL
    Sincerely,
    CordonBluePrint

Great track and great project. The Sean Price track was in anothr dimension

  82. k.... ....

I decided to correct this before I lured more trolls lmaoooo, I like this joint. DOOM one of my favorite rappers hands down, but what I thought was high pitched flutes which I now know is a "synthesizer"...(thanks trolls ;-) I felt like it was a little overkill on the beat...mind you I still like it regardless and have listened to it several times since the upload. Someone said "just enjoy it" and I am enjoying it, despite my slight dislike of the high pitched "synthesizer". Thanks for the upload.

    k.... ....

c3ntr0n800 who gives a fuck u little cry baby

    k.... ....

Evander Holyfield How am I being a "crybaby"? That's the least I was going for.

    k.... ....

c3ntr0n800 the beat on this song is amazing it's doom's style this faggot just forces himself to like it but still bitches about it like doom needs to chill w the high pitch flutes like stfu fag true lightyears and this song are the best thing adult swim has ever done

    k.... ....

c3ntr0n800 why saturate an artist with needless output if ur not feeling it. plus he types lyke thys.. why wouldn't I call him a faggot😂😂😂

    k.... ....

Jxsper Noir that song is amazing! bitches gona bitch
