Meters, The - They All Ask'd For You Lyrics

Hey, Lamba
Crawfish etouffee
They all asked for you

I went on down to the Audubon Zoo
And they all asked for you
They all asked for you
(For who?)
Well, they even inquired about you
I went on down to the Audubon Zoo
And they all asked for you
The monkeys asked
The tigers asked
And the elephant asked me too

Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom
Boo, dee bee doo, poo boom
Boom, boom
Boo, dee bee doo, poo boom

I went on up to the big ol' sky
And they all asked for you
(For who?)
They all asked for you
Well, they even inquire about you
I went on up to the big ol' sky
And they all asked for you
The ducks asked
The eagles asked
And the buzzard asked me too

Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom
Boo, dee bee doo, poo boom
Boom, boom
Boo, dee bee doo, poo boom

I went on down to the deep blue sea
And they all asked for you
They all asked for you
(For me?)
Well, they even inquire about you
I went on down to the deep blue sea
And they all asked for you
(For me?)
The shark asked
The whale asked
And the barracuda asked me too

They all asked for you
(Every morning)
They all asked for you
(Every morning)
Every there, all over there

They all asked for you
(Every morning)
They all asked for you
(Every evening)
They all asked for you

  38. V.... ....

I first heard this song in elementary in Baton Rouge back in 1997. This song always made me want red beans and rice. I love that I grew up in the south. Home sweet home

  39. P.... L....

Dey all ax fo' you. Goddamn I love me some Funky Meters. And I agree with the comment below this one, nobody who didn't grow up in francophone Louisiana will understand all the things in the song, .And by the way, if you speak proper Parisian French it will help you understand the literal translation. Alas Creole French isn't French like those in Paris know it, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the song. The hilarious absurdity of it will work its magic on you anyway.

Here's a cheat for non-Creole French conversant folks: "Laissez le bon temps roulez" means "Let the good times roll" and if ever a city can have a motto, that's the universal motto for New Orleans, a city where having a good time (and be damned any consequence) is the highest calling of all.

And hey... am I the only one who, after looking around to make sure nobody's watching, succumbs to the urge to dance, a good old New Orleans shuffle?

  40. M.... I....

Only in the New Orleans. The world will never understand us. Only song about the zoo in the whole wide world. For just about everything in New Orleans, there is a song. That is another reason why I love my City.

Simon and Garfunkel might disagree with you about the only song. Naturally, I would never get involved in such an emotionally charged issue!

    g.... e....

@Wes Miller I was going to pull out Simon and Garfunkel - At the Zoo , Peter Paul and Mary - Going to the Zoo, but I like yours better!

  59. C.... H....

Sometimes being a New Yorker is a real pain..I get words and names wrong that I really ought to know. Hubby lived on Jackson Square for decades before Katrina brought him to NY in October 2005, so he is patient with me. I do catch myself saying dumb stuff like BURgundy street, CRAYole food..(like the crayons?) and Lordy... I only just got the hang of Tchoupitoulas..(which is probably spelled wrong). Be kind, and know my heart's in the right place even if my pronunciation isn't.....when we come back in 2018, for NOLA 300, I should have it right, by then!!!

    C.... H....

BURgundy is the proper NOLA pronunciation .....not Burgundy ...you go girl

    C.... H....

    Tchoupique tou las!

    C.... H....

@obiwan2112 yes, and since you're a know it all, i bet you you don't know what it means...
