Meters, The - It Ain't No Use Lyrics

Ain't no use to cut you loose
I wouldn't last a day
Ain't no use to cut you loose
I guess I'm here to stay

I could think of a thousand reasons
For me to leave you
But I know if I ever walked out that door
I wouldn't know what to do

Ain't no use to cut you loose
I wouldn't last a day
(Ain't no use, ain't no use)
Ain't no use, oh, to cut you loose
I guess I'm here to stay
(Ain't no use, ain't no use)

You got me where you want me (Want me)
I'm shackled to your love (To your love)
Set me free, set me free, set me free, set me free
Set me free now

You got me where you want me (Where you want me)
I'm shackled to your love (To your love)
Set me free, set me free, set me free, set me free
Set me free now

You got me where you want me (Where you want me)
I'm shackled to your love (To your love)
Set me free, set me free, set me free, set me free
Set me free

(Ain't no use, ain't no use)
Oh, I'm goin' out of my mind
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
What I wanna do
(Ain't no use, ain't no use)
(Ain't no use, ain't no use)

Just ain't no use, I know I can't cut you loose
(Ain't no use, ain't no use)
(Ain't no use, ain't no use)
I wanna go, I wanna stay, I wanna go, I wanna stay
Don't know what I wanna do now
(Ain't no use, ain't no use)

BLINDING track! It's so, so long since I heard a group that has made me drop whatever I was doing and just groove. Top drawer soul ... and for a second course they treat us to controlled noodling that's kinda- sorta- off- the- top- of- my - head- reminiscent of people like Rory Gallagher or an outfit like Steppenwolf; nowadays you JUST DON'T GET fusion cuisine like this and it's a downright shame.
The examples I mentioned, they'rere not even particularly good examples; what the Meters are doing, it's very definitely their own thing - but it's plain to see that they've listened to hippie bands and their psychedelic music, and been influenced by it. It's this sort of cross pollination that allows music to thrive; of course nowadays something like this this would be be categorized & classified to within an inch of it's life!

R.I. P. Art the legend. It was so much fun grooving to your jams in my teenage years back in Nigeria. Rest well sir.

Barry, I used to play this over and over again as a small boy back in the day in Jos and Bauchi in Nigeria. Great music by great creative music minds. Great lead vocal, lead guitar and back up voices. The bass line is sweet and smooth.

Those were instruments played with talent not now gone are the days, if you where not there am so sorry for you cause you missed out seeing the best in music

  15. A.... d....

Afinal de uma vida toda o que fica são as músicas que marcam fatos, momentos e emoções... Se passam os anos, o tempo a galopes , mas a essência musical é de hoje .

So tight.  My theory on why there isn't much good music anymore.  Black music has become predictable white music and even worse, not many black artists today play any instruments.  As a result, white music blows as well cause we just basically rip off true soul brothers.  Follow the trend of musical history.  Blues, Jazz, Rock n Roll, R&B, Funk, Reggae and then came the titillating limited musical talent of disco and hip hop.  In each of these musical genres, curious white dudes latched on to try and follow (sometimes with even better results - hence the artists who are largely considered the greatest of all time ala Beatles, Dylan, Stones) but rarely with any originality in creation.  I like disco and hip hop but its limited in terms pure musical groove appeal.  Now we seem stuck cause there isn't many brothers playing instruments or, they are unable to get airplay and break through.  We need some break throughs.  It always happens in times of kaos in the world, so Im looking forward to seeing who and what emerges.

Check out Kamasi Washington and all the musicians he supports. You will be happily surprised that your assertions may not be entirely true.

    D.... G....

I see your point of view and could agree to some degree but to tell The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan had no originality in creation comes out as an ignorant comment.

The Beatles stepped away from pop and rock and roll with Rubber Soul album, The Rolling Stones distanced themselves from bluesy roots after Exile on the Main Street album and went on to make a bit different music.

General consesus is that they paved the pathway for thousands of bands and soloists, black or white, with such a diverse opus and originality in creation!!

    D.... G....

Too far now from the l s d intervention

    D.... G....

sorry dude, i get what you‘re trying to say, but bitching about the beatles, the rolling stones or bob dylan is just bullshit!

  18. Q.... ....

Man, this was stuff I was listening to in High School. And I Graduated in 2002. I thought most of the music my peers liked had no feeling, and little respect for a musician's craft. It was like capitalism at its worst. So I tuned into stuff like this.

  19. P.... ....

    I feel rejuvenated!

  20. s.... n....

Favourite jam of all time - love, love, love

  21. J.... S....

Been listening to this on loop for like three weeks and I'm still not sick of it... Pushes every button. So, so good.

    J.... S....

My new favorite song. As you say, pushes every button.

    J.... S....

Please lead me to the promised land. They're ain't nobody making funk like this no more. I need some more soul soothing shit. The closet of my dreams ran outta my bitches clothes.

    J.... S....

@Jimmy Pegleg I believe it is called 6th grade syndrome, because by then, you've certainly decided for your own self what kind of music you love. So, you can listen to the same song over and over again and think it perfectly normal, while Others find it odd. I am 40 years PASSED 6th grade, and the syndrome remains. I too have had it on loop! Kind of a good syndrome...imo.

    J.... S....

Pushes your button, turns my crank, floats my friends boat! 🤣
