When they call them the Funky Meters, they ain't kidding! Really miss this sound. They and the Nevilles personify the New Orleans funk sound. Saw these guys in a Mobile, Al football stadium in the 70's with the Allman Brothers Band closing the concert. There were about 50,000 others there with us on the field and in the stands. Great experience, what I remember of it! No fights, no trouble, just good vibes.

This Popeyes chicken restaurant I used to go to would play this song all the time. Was the first I'd ever heard it (was in my 20s at the time). The chicken part cracked me up like hell. Every.Time. Used to think they were saying "just keep on cluckin'" lol Cluck and strut on, you funky chicken...

That's always a good question when concerning it's The Meters. A dear friend David Allen, who once played trumpet w/ Miles, said that they played very complicated music, but in a simple sort of way. On one song he noted that the drummer was drumming to one time, the bass to another, and the lead guitar was using a different time, yet it all worked together. Only the Meters could pull this off, every time.
