Meshuggah - Gods Of Rapture Lyrics

I FEEL TORN APART A VILE MISFIT FALLEN
DEEP INTO AFFLICTION OF MY HOLLOW MIND
THE SENSE OF SUFFOCATION GROWS INSIDE MY LUNGS
WHEN I WAKE INTO TRUTH I'M BACK AMONG THE BLIND

THE TRUTH OF LIES DISENCHANTING MY EYES
HOW CAN I SURVIVE I CAN'T STAND BEING
ALIVE...ALIVE...
GODS OF RAPTURE ENSHROUDING MY EYES I TRY TO HIDE
THEN SLOWLY I DIE

MY PAST LAUGH AT ME FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF NEGATION
UNTYING THE LASTING FEW CORDS OF COMMON SENSE
SUBMERGED INTO THE FLOW THE RAPIDS OF ADDICTION
TOO WEAK TO PUSH IT BACK A WORM WITHOUT DEFENCE

MY FLESH FADING UNDRESSING THE BONES BEHOLD ME NAKED
CADAVER EXPOSED THIS MY ABUSE I CAN'T TAKE IT NO MORE
THE FRAGILE TRUTH SNEERING AT ME WITH TEETH PRESSED
LIKE THRUSTING NAILS INTO MY HEAD ALL MY LIFE I REGRET

  1. s.... ....

Please play this on cello and bass

  2. A.... S....

Still my favorite song and album.

  3. D.... C....

    Skip at 00:30 unforgivable

  4. C.... N....

    That verse riff..!

  5. R.... W....

My introduction to Meshuggah. Went to Camelot Music the next day to order the CD. This was pre-Destroy, Erase, Improve release. Nobody had any idea who these guys were.

    R.... W....

We got a bootleg with like four versions of suffer in truth(including live to prove they were legit) and like two other songs. We spread that shit like mayo.

  6. P.... 0....

I know there is no correlation but some parts remind me of mudvayne.

  7. .... I....

  8. B.... P....

Oh my God. I've accessed the time machine

  9. T.... D....

    Dude this sounds kinda numetal

  10. T.... P....

    1:53 frank zappa!!

  11. J.... S....

I’m new to this band and I SWEAR I’ve NEVER been more impressed then this.
It’s something I could write a dissertation on. But I won’t. It’s so mind blowing and such mind fuckery that not many words can describe it

  12. E.... O....

Kind of like SlipKnot and System of a Down if they were to combine efforts and go back in time to produce this wonderful band.

    E.... O....

Daniel McCoy this sounds nothing like either of those bands

    E.... O....

how about you drill your ears in with a power drill

  13. M.... J....

    Fuck man....not all that.

  14. R.... C....

Duude his solo is straight up Holdsworth. Sounds a lot like like Derek Sherinian/Planet X at 1:53

  15. B.... T....

    That solo made me high

  16. F.... S....

But Rapture has no Gods or Kings, only a man.

  17. m.... s....

    Metallica - Frantic

  18. w.... ....

2:38 My favorite part of the song.

  19. n.... b....

    I feel torn apart
    A vile misfit fallen
Deep into affliction of my hollow mind
The senses of suffocation grows inside my lungs
When i wake into truth i'm back among the blind

The truth of lies disenchanting my eyes
    How can i survive
    I can't stand being alive
    Alive

Gods of rapture enshrouding my eyes
    I try to hide
    Then slowly i die
    Die

My past laugh at me from the other side of negation
Untying the lasting few cords of common sense
    Submerged into the flow
    The rapids of addiction
Too weak to push it back
    A worm without defense

My flesh fading, undressing the bones
    Behold: me naked
    Cadaver exposed this
    My abuse
I can't take it no more
    No more
The fragile truth sneering at me
With teeth pressed like thrusting nails into my head
    All my life i regret

  20. t.... ....

Probably the most original metal band out there ... and with a jazz guitarist: way cool

  21. P.... D....

    P.... D....

Yes brother, preach! Teaching this stuff to my ten year old son who is a drummer is so rewarding. It's watching my own experiences but better because at 10 learning this makes it so obviously beyond pop. It's not metal, it's rhythmic art.

  22. J.... E....

    3:52 the fragile truth!!!!💀

  23. E.... ....

Funny how at first listen you kinda feel strange listening to a Meshuggah song and then, when you "get it", you destroy your neck in a super headbanging motion.

  24. e.... ....

This is a bad edit. The audio does a weird skip at ~30 seconds in. Totally destroys the rhythm.

    e.... ....

Well that's what they do nowadays anyway, random skips in rythm to create a sound to make everything djent

    e.... ....

mattinwinkymg you clearly don’t understand anything about rhythm

    e.... ....

I think it was just uploaded from a dirty or scratched CD. Old school lol

  25. S.... S....

I hear King Crimson at 2:42

    S.... S....

King crimson have a monopoly on keyboards?

    S.... S....

GhandhiLion no? He is just saying it sounds like king crimson to him.

    S.... S....

    Allan Holdsworth

  26. Y.... B....

    Wow. Metallica influenced.

I love Meshuggah but I've never listened to this album before.

  27. n.... f....

i sucked a cock at this concert

    n.... f....

neil farmer hard do this in rythm. ...

  28. s.... ....

ёманарот, 1994 год((((( музон драйвовый, не устареет, как по мне. в то время я под столом в рост проходил, а они уже мочили во всю....

  29. A.... R....

First time I ever heard of Meshuggah was in 1998 when I rented a VHS tape called Traces of Death, and Gods Of Rapture is played over the dogfight scene. It was a shitty Faces of Death knock-0ff, but featured an extreme metal soundtrack, and it introduced my world to Meshuggah.

  30. Z.... R....

That solo is bonkers and I meant that as a term of endearment.

  31. D.... S....

    Remove the fucking ad.

  32. 2.... ....

Man, I like that Holdsworth feel. They kinda lost that on their way, sadly enough...

    2.... ....

Yeah I agree. Even their tone here is very Holdsworth.

    2.... ....

I was quite happy to hear that they have come back to it, at least in parts, on Violent Sleep of Reason. A true masterpiece...

    2.... ....

Cheers for the vibe otherwise unknown!

    2.... ....

LOL, the Clockworks solo sounds like being infected by an alien virus. I don't think they lost it.

    2.... ....

I actually disagree with that, they just changed it more into their own style.

  33. R.... ....

    Heavy pantera influence I feel

    R.... ....

    REVOisMYname after I believe.

    R.... ....

Vulgar came out in '92. PanterA is my favorite band of all time, then Meshuggah!

    R.... ....

lol, this didn't influence Pantera, and Tomas has admitted Pantera influenced them. (just one of many influences) Gods of Rapture came out in 94. Vulgar and Driven were already out by the time this came out. You could have just googled. Meshuggah were innovative while following trends for a while, trying to find themselves. Once they picked up the 8 string, people started copying them. Phil was no more a 'leech' than Meshuggah were. I don't think you know much of how this stuff works. EVERYONE copies stuff, trying to find something different in the process. No one is completely original.

    R.... ....

The main riff sounds like slaughtered

    R.... ....

    @Señor Romántico besides Frank zappa

  34. J.... W....

    [Meshuggah Face]

    J.... W....

    +Justin Widle Hahaha, dude

    J.... W....

    jens kidman underbite spasm

  35. M.... M....

You can hear Haakes progression with the quarter notes as the years go by

  36. V.... V....

This is the only song of Meshuggah's I like to be honest.

  37. h.... ....

This is one band where I love every album. Out of all their albums, there are only 4 or 5 songs that I don't really like. What I enjoy most about this band, is that you can hear their progression. Nowadays they connect everything, but in this time they were more random. I like all of their music.

    h.... ....

Thrash, prog and fusion R.I.P allan holdsworth!

    h.... ....

    same here

  38. T.... S....

don't really like meshuggah after this album

    T.... S....

Theodore Schantz They got good, dunny judge

    T.... S....

@Xeno298 you should probably avoid scottish euphemisms on the internet seeing as most english speakers dont even understand them

    T.... S....

@J S I was probably drunk to be fair...

    T.... S....

    Xeno298 aye laddy

  39. S.... F....

my god.....this is fuckin AMAZING!! XD

  40. m.... ....

One of the best from Thordendal, when he still was learning from master Allan Holdsworth ;)

  41. m.... ....

Metallica used to be my fav band, and of course Metallica influenced Meshuggah, no doubt about it. But Meshuggah takes trash metal to another parellel dimension with this EP and specially "Destroy Erase Improve" LP. Metallica are not as technical as this band, nor they will ever be.

    m.... ....

    m0skit0zindahouse trash?

    m.... ....

    Djrash metal lol

  42. M.... A....

    fav song

  43. r.... o....

    the brutal fatality

  44. T.... ....

    reminds me of metallica

  45. J.... M....

    Such a beautiful solo!

  46. K.... C....

JESUS! i fuckin love this band!!

  47. m.... ....

    GODZILLA!!!

  48. W.... ....

@floydbarber90 Really? I remember seeing Steven Wilson doing something similar in a DVD, so I thought it was the same thing in Deadwing. Guess not.

  49. S.... B....

@ShredST Nah, turns out that was Adrian Belew from King Crimson. Probably some higher plane of jazz guitar existence that just sounds similar to me because I wouldn't know better :P.

  50. W.... ....

@floydbarber90 I think the solo on Deadwing was more or less Steven Wilso stepping on the whammy pedal and playing random notes.

  51. F.... ....

Just plain grinding badassness... real men love metal

  52. b.... ....

it's just a fucking band ,mate. Relax ...

  53. b.... ....

@bebenavole you shut up soittotaiteilija is actually right justin bieber's pre-pre-pubescent voice and far from kinda good music has no right to be in their presence Meshuggah would be delighted to smite her (i mean him) she (sorry did it again) he has no right to be in the presence of the almighty Meshuggah.

  54. b.... ....

    @soittotaiteilija
    oh shut up!

  55. J.... D....

This is what we in Sweden call, a fet jävla klassiker.
    Fyfan, så jävla bra!!!!!!!!

  56. L.... P....

    Why so few views?

  57. T.... W....

    @soittotaiteilija Well, I think it's gone now.

  58. B.... ....

Haha! In the description it says "Album: None" Kinda' got me confused there -_-

  59. n.... ....

The best band, in the universe.

  60. T.... W....

There's a Justin Bieber ad just above the description. How blasphemous... he has no right to be in the presence of the almighty MESHUGGAH. Even on the internet.

  61. D.... ....

Awesome song! None album is the best!

  62. d.... ....

    4:11-4:58 Gets the blood pumping

  63. h.... ....

    thordendal=favourite musician

  64. R.... L....

Wheres the song vanished off this album?

  65. S.... B....

I take that back. On a closer inspection, they're stylistically quite different.

Its amazing how the song breaks from complete brutality into a dispassiontately beautiful solo like that. Thordendal's the man.

  66. S.... B....

The solo on Deadwing (porcupine tree) seems to have gotten some ideas from this one.

    S.... B....

Siddharth Bajpai Just came from deadwing ironically

  67. C.... ....

live version off of Destroy Erase Improve much better. this is meshuggah's best song either way.
