Merle Haggard - Stardust Lyrics

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely night dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
I am once again with you.

When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
Oh, but that was long ago
And now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song.

Beside a garden wall
When stars are bright
And you are in my arms
The nightingale sings it's fairy tale
Of paradise where roses bloom.

Though I dream in vain
In my heart it always will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain.

Beside a garden wall
When stars are bright
And you are in my arms
The nightingale sings it's fairy tale
Of paradise where roses bloom.

Though I dream in vain
In my heart it always will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain...

Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel played this wonderful old song for me and my wife in Luckenbach Texas just a few weeks ago.

Whatever Merle sing, he makes it his own, this is good as his country songs.

One of the most brilliant songs written, sung by my favorite singer.  New favorite song for me.  It's as good as it gets.

É isso ai. You said it my friend. Merle had a song on the LP 'Pride In What I Am' (I think it was) called 'I Think We're Living In The Good Old Days'. Listening to this recording of 'Stardust' reminds me that these are the good old days: we have right here with us this man who is a master of his craft, bares his soul to us, and never stops searching for truth.

An amazing rendition of this old standard.

Wow, Merle's rendition simply beats Willie Nelson's out of my favorite lists.
Just kidding, love them both. : )
