Merle Haggard - Sea Of Heartbreak Lyrics
The lights in the harbor
Don't shine for me
I'm like a lost ship
Adrift out on the sea.
Memories of your caress, so divine
I wish you were mine again, my dear
I am on this sea of tears
Sea of heartbreak.
Oh why did I lose you
Oh, where did I fail
Why did you leave me
Always to sail?
Memories of your caress, so divine
How I wish you were mine again, my dear
I am on this sea of tears
Sea of heartbreak.
Oh, what I'd give to sail back to shore
Back to your arms once more.
Come to my rescue
Take me and keep me
Away from the sea.
Oh, sea of heartbreak, lost love an' loneliness
Memories of your caress, so divine
How I wish you were mine again, my dear
I'm on this sea of tears
Sea of heartbreak.

Merle Haggard Sea Of Heartbreak Comments
HELLO WINNER
ONLY EVER HEARD THIS BY DON GIBSON
THIS ONE IS JUST AS GOOD THANKS FOR SHARING
Great that you enjoyed it Dave
THANKS i liked its a merle day
DON GIBSON'S VERSION IS UNEQUALED. HIS VOICE, THE TEMPO, THE SORROW IN HIS VOICE IS BY FAR SUPERIOR TO ANY VERSION I'VE EVER HEARD, AND IT BEING ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS EVER RECORDED.
Seems that almost every time I come to YouTube I run across another great song recorded by Merle Haggard that I haven't heard him sing before. Merle had such a tremendous volume of great work it is amazing. I totally agree with George Jones when he said that Merle was the best country singer since Hank Williams. What a voice../.
This giant legend cannot sing a bad song!! Never to be replaced.
Thanks ---Winner
glad you enjoyed it.
Don Gibson's original recording will never be equalled or beaten in my opinion.
The Nashville Sound at its very finest.
I love Merle more than any other singer. However, I don't like when other entertainers try to cover the original songs. This applies to all kinds of music. Also remakes of movies.
any version of this song without boom-boom-boom between two sentences is wrong and in no way shape or form can be compared to original or even Robert Gordon's version...lame
It's good but nowhere close to Gibson.
I disagree. This will always be Don Gibson's song. His voice gives it pathos, sadness, a haunting inner echo.
Haggard doesn't even come close.
I agree...However, Merle's arrangement is better...background is Awesome.
I agree with Len. This is Dons Gibson's song. Of course he did good versions of many songs as Lefty Frizzel's 'Thats the way love goes and even this .. But, Don's version is something you couldn' t resist listening. Probably I have listened to it more than 10 times in last 3-4 days. The funny thing is that I am from India and is a great admirer of American country music especially during week ends after having 2 pegs....
Damn good job Merle

One of those shuffle songs that Merle never really liked to do. He sure did them great tho..This is on the 501 Blues album released in 1989. Thanks for posting a great song.
