I am remembering sitting and listening to this with my Grandma Simpson who passed Christmas night and now also Merle Haggard is gone as well.... Where is this world going, music alone has lost all Morales and respect.... The first verse is as it was written but it's the spoken words of how HEAVEN might be written and spoken so heartfelt by Merle who loved his mama so. MERLE TOLD HIS SON BEN THAT HE WOULD DIE ON HIS BIRTHDAY, HIS 79th TO BE EXACT! The same age his mama wrote this BEAUTIFUL spoken verse for Merl to sing for BELIEVERS or NON-BELIEVERS!
