@Garvin Lawing Absolutely.. I love Vince Gill, especially when he sings his own songs but, he doesn't even measure up to the king of country..... Merle Haggard is probably the greatest country music singer/songwriter in history.  plus the fact that he writes what he knows and, he had a troubled upbringing, his friend was killed trying to escape jail whom had asked Merle to go with him....what a life he lead until HIS love of music saved him......

This song is in the "Bakersfield" album released in 2013.  Rolling Stone Magazine: "Vince Gill has interpreted, reinvigorated and popularized most memorable songs of Buck Owen and Merle Haggard"  Merle Haggard wrote in the liner of the "Bakersfield" album "Vince and Paul offers a great new touch on a great old sound.  I feel highly complimented.  I can only give the entire project a big ole double, thumbs up!  Well done guys, the West Coast takes a bow". 
Vince's and Merle's version have little different interpretation with slightly different melody.  I love both of the versions.  They have very different styles.   

@yasuko kearney I must say the melody and the instrumental quality in Vince's version is superior to me.  I love how Merle expresses his feelings in his singing with the interpretation of the song that comes to home to many people.

@donaldsegar Keep in mind though that 20 yrs before 1971, country music was dominated with a bass violin and maybe a steel guitar. Come around this time, more symphonic sounds started developing, and for those who loved Hank WIlliams and Ernest Tubb, those like Glen Campbell were not new country.

Course I believe all those in those camps can agree on what to call most country music nowadays...not country music.
