Merle Haggard - Blue Jungle Lyrics

Daylight Monday morning turning off the Great White Way
Through the smoke and haze the city starts its day
It's a day to day survival in the battle zone
And a blue jungle with you gone

It's a blue jungle with you gone
It's a cold empty city when you walk these streets alone
Like a world past is screaming when you hear the whistle moan
And a blue jungle with you gone

The weekend party's over and I'm sober once again
And it's hard to face the world without my friends
And it's a dog eat dog existence just to make it on your own
And a blue jungle with you gone

It's a blue jungle with you gone
It's a cold empty city when you walk these streets alone
Like a world past is screaming when you hear the whistle moan
It's a blue jungle with you gone
And it's a blue jungle with you gone

R.I.P. Merle Haggard! April 6, 1937 - April 6, 2016. This album came out at a time when country radio had become fixated on the sales figures of country entertainers rather than the actual songs. If a country artist's single or album hadn't sold at least half a million copies in a half a year then country radio programmers pretty much declared that the artist was "no good', "unpopular", etc. On the other hand...if a country artist over a certain age managed to sell almost half a million or higher, too bad, they didn't "fit" the youth-driven playlists. George Jones, Dolly, Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris, and a couple of other popular country music artists had their airplay reduced for cynical reasons, too. Obviously a big reason 'Blue Jungle' happened to be a lost album. George Jones recorded a lost album the same year (1990) called 'You Oughta Be Here With Me'.
