Mercury Rev - Hudson Line Lyrics

Y'don't need much money t' ride th' silver train
Just enough t' keep yerself from sleepin' in th' rain
Satellites 'r chasin' silver clouds away an'
Technicolor raindrops wash gumballs down th' drain

Gonna leave th' city, gonna hop a train tonight
Gotta one-way ticket an' th' moon is shinin' brite
Gonna leave th' city, gonna catch th' Hudson Line
'Cause y'know I love th' city, but I haven't got th' time

Satellites 'r chasin' th' silver clouds away
Mercury's a' fallin' yeah who forgot t' pray
Silver trains will whistle an' glisten by th' moon
Molly's got her kite and joe has his balloons
Satellites 'r chasin' silver clouds away
I'm stuck on th' tracks t' sleep away th' day

Mercury Rev Hudson Line Comments

This does not sound like the original on the album, allowing for remastering. The vocal sounds very different.

That's Garth Hudson on the saxes. Garth played multiple instruments with the legendary group of Levon Helm, Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko and Richard Manuel in The Band. Mercury Rev certainly sounds great with Garth.

@MJPICKify Most of the same can be said of all Mercury Rev stuff. They're very unique and a step apart of most of the music world (besides The Flaming Lips since they share producers). But I do sometimes wish they'd go back to their original days before they got rid of the original vocalist. Yerself Is Steam, and BOCES is simply the most unique, different, most ambient, bizarre with a good tune, etc. etc. not enough can be said about both of the albums to describe how different they were.

This was the best album ever back then. I remember going to the shop and buying this beauty because I saw it on TV late at night and I was amazed.

I think so too, one of the best for me as well. Must've heard this CD about a thousand times.

Mercury Rev's magnum opus. They never reached such a peak anymore after this outstanding album!

Questo album è un gioiello, nel suo genere uno dei migliori degli anni 90, e forse non solo nel suo genere.

One of my favorites from Deserter's Songs, and one of the most joyous songs I've heard. If you like this, track down the early version called "N. Y. Avenue Playground" from Grasshopper and the Golden Crickets (you can hear it on their Myspace page)
