Menzingers, The - Straight To Hell Lyrics
So you can play on the fiddle
How's about a British jig and reel?
Speaking King's English in quotation
As steelhead towns feel the steel mills rust
Water froze in the generation
This is your paradise
There ain't no need for ya
There ain't no need for ya
Go straight to hell, boy
Go straight to hell, boy
You wanna play mind-crazed banjo
On the druggy-drag ragtime U.S.A.?
In Parkland International
Where procaine proves the purest rock man groove
and rat poison
The volatile Molatov says:
Lemme tell ya 'bout your blood bamboo kid.
It ain't Coca-Cola, it's rice.
There ain't no need for ya
There ain't no need for ya
Go straight to hell, boy
Go straight to hell, boy
You wanna join in a chorus
Of the Amerasian blues?
When it's Christmas out in Ho Chi Minh City
Kiddie say papa papa papa papa papa-san, take me home
See me got photo photo photograph
Of you and Mamma Mamma-san
Of you and Mamma Mamma-san
There ain't no need for ya
There ain't no need for ya
Go straight to hell, boy
Go straight to hell, boy

I fucking miss the clash. Rip Joe... This is a great cover
Awesome cover
best cover
Fun, almost pop-punk/screamo type cover. Not bad in that regards. But I always found the original pretty chilling
excellent take on a tough to cover song. Heard it live a few times. Nothing is more fun than singing along to the last 30 seconds
Holy shit, anyone who says this is better than the original needs to collapse both ear drums & give up on sound and music all together. How dare you!!!
this version absolutely rapes the original
dj mandela If by "rapes" you mean makes the original seem that much better, then yes. This version is pretty good buy not nearly as good as the original. The whiny vocals do not have any feeling.
@obbygift Go straight to hell, boy.
obbygift i love it if people like you pop up in public and out themselves as complete morons! congrats you poor sod.
Listening to the original made me appreciate this version a whole lot more
This is one of the best covers any band has ever done, honestly.
possibly more powerful than the original but the clash is the clash, both are so good
Psssh....
He has a such a weiner voice.
Great song -even greater-band!
This is ok, it's shit compared to the Clash original.
This feels energetic and melodic, a lot more instrumentation compared to The Clash
i'm a big clash fan, saw them way back in 77. This is a fucking great version !
Unsurprisingly, all those bands are worse than The Menzingers. Punk or not, this band rules(they are punk regardless though).
Menzingers are not a hardcore band. Stop comparing them to the germs and black flag. If you have to compare them to an original punk band, I think comparisons to bands like the replacements would be more appropriate. Why do people hear a band that is obviously not a hardcore band, and accuse them of not being punk rock. You realize that the ramones, MC5, The Clash, etc. we're around before black flag and the germs and shit right?
Beautiful. This is an incredibly hard song to do justice, but I think they did a fabulous job
I think he is saying "Ghosts rate too well, boy".
This cover is fucking brilliant.
amazing cover! a great tribute to the clash
Do you think he is saying, "Go straight to hell, boy!" as if condemning someone to the nether regions? Or, is he saying, "Go straight to Hellboy", as in go see the 2004 smash hit film starring Ron Perlman?
This song is soo good. I don't know why but I never got into the Clash. This is amazing though
Wow! great cover! I have jsut discovered these guys, definitely a fan!
Never fails someone has to argue about what genre a band falls under. The Clash is amazing. The Menzingers are amazing. Simple.
Ahhhhh! Amazing. Doesn't sound like its the clash then try get to the Second part of the intro.
I would have to agree with you young man (or woman.)
in what way does this even remotely sound like green day?
BEST COVER EVER!!!!!!!
@moovienutt You need to open your mind, friend. There's a whole wide world out there that isn't defined by your narrow world view.
@violesswar lol overproduction? the clash had more people fucking with their stuff in the studio than these guys.
@llanbo because thats how he sings.....
3:50 best part :D
why do people have to bring up a shit band(green day) when talking about a great band(the menzingers)??
@coolcatjerk i honestly listened to this multiple times, and i cant find any lisp, however i do hear the overproduced sound, and seeing these guys live is amazing
@ImAsMadAsHell I was talking about the comparisons between The Menzingers and Green Day ;).
yet another good band I wouldn't have found if it wasn't for those $5 warped tour cds...
@Babyshaking
I can't hear any similarities besides them both being American punk bands.
Nice tribute to Clash =)
@rainpouring It's completely natural to compare similarities between bands. and they do kinda have a similar sound like Green Day.
Why did the make the vocals sound like Green fucking Day?
I think Joe Strummer would be proud of this as well. Great song with a rad twist by another great band. Cheers.
@EssoSteve yeah but the clash's verzion of this song is soft compared to other clash songs. Joe wrote it as a soft song and the menzingers flipped it on its ass
i think joe would be proud of this cover
@therealjakegreen thats cool. but you got to remember the different times the 2 versions came out. the intensity of the menzingers wouldnt be their if it wasnt for the clash and the evolution of the sound since then. but yea both are friggan awesome.
@drewo999 No. Yeah the original is a classic and there wouldn't be a menzingers with out the clash, but the menzingers bring intensity to an otherwise soft song, which I personally prefer to the original.
nothing against the clash, props to them but i think this is a much better version. yeah the clash is chill but compared to this one i find it boring..
good cover though. although not as good as the original. but no one would expect it to be b/c The Clash is the best band ever
