Mendes, Sergio - Puzzle Of Hearts (Oceano) Lyrics

Believe me, I'll never know how
In this life I ever found you
I don't know why you put up with me
When I go on hurting you so
Why you stay heaven knows

It's true that I would be lost
Without your tender arms to anchor me
When all my schemes have abandoned me
Wandering off empty and cold
Until you have taken hold

Like a puzzle of hearts
Your love makes me whole
Each of us missing
Part of the other's soul
As long as I live
No less will I give

Like a puzzle of hearts
Scattered far and wide
We're on a journey
Starting from different sides
And each day I wake
With each step I take
I see your face
And fall into place

Assim que o dia amanheceu
La no mar-alto da paixao
Dava pra ver o tempo ruir
Cade voce? Que solidao
Esquecera de mim

It's true that I would be lost
Without your tender arms to anchor me
When all my schemes have abandoned me
Wandering off empty and cold
Until you have taken hold

Like a puzzle of hearts
Your love makes me whole
You are the missing part
Of my lonely soul
As long as I live
No less will I give

    Beautiful!! 💕

Who are the two vocalists? Description is not clear on this.

Ocean is a masterpiece of Brazilian Djavan, one of the most beautiful songs ever made at all times. Unfortunately Sergio Mendes did not know respect the lightness of the song and put this singer of operatic voice ridiculous. But let's praise  Sergio Mendes for broadcasting bossa nova in the US. Too bad he did not know when to stop. Not everything is Money.

You have ears of lead, guy. I used to have a music radio show in a major market for 25 years, in which I played a lot of Brazilian stuff. In an interview on my show, Djavan praised this version as proof that great songs can be done in slightly different ways and still sound great. You're probably thrown off by the fact that Djavan sings it in a lower register.

I've noticed a lot of misplaced nationalism among Brazilian commenters on YouTube. They will claim musical superiority of their nation as if they had an inferiority complex that has to be nurtured at all times at the expense of other, equally valuable music cultures. I don't remember any Americans, Britishers, Germans, Frenchmen, Indians, etc., gushing over their nations' contributions to music in these comments even though they'd have more than enough reason to do so. I also don't remember any Brazilian MPB artists (and I've met many) exhibiting a similar attitudes. On the contrary, they are all too ready to acknowledge the debt they owe to the American jazz and the classic American Song Book as well as the Anglo-American pop/rock revolution in the creation of their own sensibilities and style. Music is not a nationalist zero sum game.

Love this song! As amazing as this version is, the Portuguese version by Djavan is even more moving, even though I don't speak a word of the language. This is one of my favorite albums by Sergio Mendes.
