Men At Work - Giving Up Lyrics

If there should be the faintest traces
Of you in my summer sky
My heart would pound and race
And people ask me why
Did I pull those funny faces
When I walk by the waterside
I look for things to say
And still I find you

I won't give up
Don't talk of giving up

And every night I swear I've finished
And when I rise to face the day
Resolve just fades away
And so it follows
Trying to find strength of purpose
I place temptation out of reach
Then search in every niche
Until I find you

I won't give up
Don't talk of giving up
I won't give it up--Love this world
No thoughts of giving up oh no no no no no

Perhaps its only saints who suffer
For those needs to which we're slaved
This road I walk is paved with good intentions
The final choice hangs on a wire
And there's no room for feet to stray
The piper waits for pay
And still I find you
I won't give up
Don't talk of giving up

I won't give up--Love this world
No thoughts of giving up oh no no no no no
I won't give it up--Love this world
Don't talk of giving up
I won't give it up--Love this world
No thoughts on giving up

Too bad is so underrated, this song is one of their best in my opinion.

Greg Ham had such a wonderful singing voice and he was an incredible self-taught multi-instrumentalist, as well. 'Two Hearts' was released in the U.S. in 1985, when I was 16-years-old. I was going through some very difficult times then and was contemplating suicide (don't judge me) to escape this cruel thing called life. But then I bought the 'Two Hearts' CD & heard Greg singing 'Giving Up'. It had such a profound impact on me that I abandoned those nasty-bad suicidal ideations and began listening to the song over & over again (to 'ingrain it in my brain') -- and much to the dismay of my parents. Thirty+ years later it still touches me the way it did all those years ago (as do the songs 'Fear' [from the CD 'Sway'], 'Black Orchid' [from the CD 'The Answers'] & 'Razorblade' [from the CD 'History For Sale'] -- all by Blue October). Knowing that Greg Ham died alone, and with misplaced guilt thanks to that damned [lawsuit] debacle which claimed he had 'copied' certain flute riffs from 'Kookaburra...', although the lyrics and sheet music had been written by Colin Hay & Ron Strykert a year before Greg joined them, truly makes my heart hurt.

The world lost [out on] an incredibly talented & gifted man the day Greg Ham passed away. I won't remember him for copying anything because a person can't copy something that doesn't already exist. Instead, I will remember, and continue listening to, the music, as well as his playful, goofy antics, and those beautiful blue eyes & impish grin/smile that melted the heart of the 13-year-old girl that I was in 1982. They still do.

Blessed Be, Greg Ham🕆. You will always have a special place in my heart ❤. Thank you for the music 🎼🎤🎷🎹 🎸 and stopping me doing 'something stupid' all those years ago. My life didn't turn out as I had hoped, but I won't be Giving Up anytime soon.
