I love the Melvins but this is the kind of cover song which seems a bit forced. A lot of cover songs feel like that.

I don't think I've ever heard the Melvins "let it rip" on a cover song, except maybe Green River's "Leech." Their versions always feel a little distant and arch.

Comparing has value when it's not about dick size & opens up discussion, but it's youtube so it's either territorial pissing or anti-intellectualism in an anti authoritarian dress. @wretchedSTONER on top of that, who's to account for the role the germs may have played in inspiring other parties within said pool of influence? again this loops back to my initial point of music being an inseperable and unified body. just because the melvins were influenced by more than the germs doesnt mean that other contemporaries and inspirations would have.

@wretchedSTONER They do draw from a vast pool but what none of us (perhaps even the melvins themselves included) could account for is the motivation to begin. The Germs may or may not have been the final straw to push our friends over the edge and actually start performing but really none of us can ever prove or disprove that. and without that one influence, the melvins may or may not have still formed but they most definitely wouldnt be the Melvins we know today.

@incomprius - Very valid statements. I agree with all of it. But even if they were an influence on him, to say the Melvins would not exist if the Germs hadn't existed is just illogical. The Melvins draw from a vast pool of influence.....

@wretchedSTONER Recorded material is the potential to reach others indefinitely yet potentially forever and there is no substitute for quality work but even the most important people start out as a union between two cells. My point being that small and simple groundwork is just as if not infinitely more important than what becomes of it. You can't have a great list of career achievements in an area if someone doesnt buy the land in the first place.

@wretchedSTONER Except for the fact that in interviews Buzz specifically cites the Germs as a main influence. Dude you don't have to convince me to love the Melvins. BOTH these bands are a main influence to me and my music. And yes of course the Germs only put out one LP. They were too busy playing shows. They only existed for a year and then Darby killed himself. The biggest source of inspiration for those who were influenced by the Germs were those who experienced it first fucking hand.

@incomprius - That all might be true, but it still doesn't erase the fact the Germs only put out ONE LP. 1. Uno. Ein. One and done. The Melvins have been churning out shit on a steady basis since 1983. Not only has the release of new tunes been consistent, the music has always been of exceptional quality. To say that there wouldn't have been a Melvins without the Germs is fucking retarded. I highly doubt their one LP had that much influence over anybody....

Music is constantly building off itself. You would have nothing the way you know and love if it werent for everything that negatively and positively influenced the band or sound.
And @Duutles, Both are extremely important. If you like hardcore & its spirit, look into the Melvins. The sound's different but the spirit is shared.
