If I understand the history correct, this was recorded for consideration for the "Kiss My Ass" tribute album. KISS really liked it, but went with a Dino Jr. cover of the same song on account of those guys being more popular at the time.

It's hard to explain what being a kiss fan is like, people grew up seeing those superhero like characters with a stage show from another world. More than a band They became gods

Isn't Gene Simmons himself on this version? FWIW, "Hotter Than Hell" was a great album, but IMHO their debut album was best. LOVE this version, and love The Melvin's version of the old Fleetwood Mac classic "The Green Manalishi"...very true to the original Peter Green song...of course, when I was a kid, the only version I knew was Judas Priest, lol...

Looking back, KISS actually have a few songs that are a little pedophilic. It was fine back in the 70s and 80s when I was a teenager, but looking back as an adult, it's a little creepy.

@richard sugg No I think he's right for the most part. This version is great, and I heard it first so when I heard the original I didn't like it at first but he's right, Frehley's guitar is so much more passionate and tortured, and spacey. The tone is just sweeter on Kiss's track

They're both really different from one another but not so different that they're indistinguishable. I don't like Kiss or the original version of this song but it's the same to me. Just run through a different filter, I guess.

Kurt produced much of this album. He was actually fired by the band as producer, because unfortunately he was really struggling with heroin at the time and just wasn’t up for the gig. However you can still really feel his presence on alot of the album. He played guitar on Spread Eagle Beagle , and percussion on a couple other tracks but as far as I know, this is Dale Crover.

He also guest starred on Earth's (a Drone/Psychedelic Metal band) "Extra Capsular" EP as a vocalist. In fact, Dylan Carson, the lead frontman of Earth, was actually the guy who gave Kurt his shotgun, as he also happened to be a massive heroin addict too (although he sobered up a few years later and subsequently changed his band's style from Drone Metal to more Psychedelic).

@Fresh Prince Of Darkness kurts words about the melvins when he tried to produce it was "they just don't understand anything" haha, i think kurt was trying to get them to polish their sound a bit and the melvins were like fuck that, haha, and like you said apparently kurt was an extreme junkie at that time and basically forced them to get rid of him...

There is NOTHING better in this version than the original KISS version. You don’t even have to like the band to hear it. The guitar solo on the Melvins is PAINFUL to listen to.
