Mellencamp, John - Human Wheels Lyrics

This land today, shall draw its last breath
And take into its ancient depths
This frail reminder of its giant, dreaming self.
While I, with human-hindered eyes
Unequal to the sweeping curve of life,
Stand on this single print of time.

Human wheels spin round and round
While the clock keeps the pace.
Human wheels spin round and round
Help the light to my face.

That time, today, no triumph gains
At this short success of age.
This pale reflection of its brave and
Blundering deed.
For I, descend from this vault,
Now dreams beyond my earthly fault
Knowledge, sure, from the seed.

Human wheels spin round and round
While the clock keeps the pace.
Human wheels spin round and round
Help the light to my face.

This land, today, my tears shall taste
And take into its dark embrace.
This love, who in my beating heart endures,
Assured, by every sun that burns,
The dust to which this flesh shall return.
It is the ancient, dreaming dust of God.

Human wheels spin round and round
While the clock keeps the pace.
Human wheels spin round and round
Help the light to my face.
Human wheels spin round and round
While the clock keeps the pace.
Human wheels spin round and round
Help the light to my face.

This is one of those songs that makes you wanna tear up just by listening to the instruments even if you don't pay attention to the lyrics. The melody sounds sad and happy at the same time. Kinda like the relief you get from confessing a girl knowing she won't be yours but she still cries and shows feelings towards you.

Check out this good, new song. Good melody sounds like 80’s? What says you?

I just love John Cougar Mellencamp, we were born the same year, and our lives are so alike it is amazing and I am so thankful to have grown up in the 60s, and thankful that I did, our values and family really meant something back then, and I believe our children could really learn a lot from our generation. There will never be another 60s ever again and I am proud to be a part of that generation now and forever. In the words of John Cougar, that’s when smoke was smoke and groven was groven!

  47. C.... D....

First time I heard this song I was standing on a bar patio in Maui watching the sunset on a beautiful day in Sept "94"

  48. A.... M....

I went to my local hospital when I was at the height of psychosis due to not sleeping after a friend's suicide. They immediately put me in a crisis unit...took everything from me..wouldn't let me say goodbye to my husband. I was so scared and not one nurse or doctor talked to me or asked me what I was experiencing in the 13 hours I was held. At one point I got up and told an attendee that this was not what I wanted. That I wanted to talk to a doctor, have my husband with me, and for medicine. The attendee didnt do anything to help me. So I sat back on the bed and sang this song in my head. It helped me get through it but unfortunately I did end up in the cardiac unit because I blacked out in fear. When I was better I told a patient advocate that I should have been treated the same as someone walking in with their arm hanging off. That a doctor should have attended to me right away. He said he would write a letter of my complaint but never received word that he did. That was 3 years ago. Thankfully I am doing much better now and if needed again that will not be a hospital I step foot in again. And I am grateful for this song that brought me some comfort when no else would. :)

  58. Q.... D....

Music today has no meaning. It speaks of no depth or volume spreading no message. John Mellencamp has been writing songs for over 40 years that tell of some emotions we ourselves don't think of until they are mentioned. His best known work is from 85's *Scarecrow* down to *Nothin' Matters* when in all honesty his most amazing songs were released after *The Lonesome Jubilee*.
