Melanie - To Be A Star Lyrics

To be a star you've got to shine
To be the light in someone's heart
You gotta be bigger than you are
Gotta be bigger than you are

If you can't reach what you can see
When dreams are your reality
It's time to be bigger than you are
Time to be bigger than you are

Are you ready for the sudden awakening
Are you ready for the total recall
Are you ready for the truth when it's told and
How do you know that it's the truth at all
Sometimes that truth isn't honest
Sometimes it cuts like a knife
Some days take more than all day and
Some lives take more than one life

To be a star you've got to shine
To be the light in someone's heart
You gotta be bigger than you are
Gotta be bigger than you are

If a smile would break on every face
At once our planet human race
Would learn how to find the path with heart
We could be bigger than we are, bigger than we are

Are you ready for the rock and roll ending
Are you ready for the rigmarole
Are you ready when you gave it all and
You'll be damned if you know where you're gonna get some more
Are you ready, are you ready
Ready to be bigger (are you ready)
Ready to be bigger than a star

To be a star you've got to shine
To be the light in someone's heart
You gotta be bigger than you are
Gotta be bigger than you are

Ian, the image at 40 sec. Is that a painting or a photograph. I love that picture.

Is she composing? Does she write standing like this? Does she always wear those signature long dresses? If it is not a painting, I think it must be a posed photo. And if it is a picture with effects applied, they have been applied with great effect. She is at a music stand. I that a chair behind her. No need to reply again. Thanks.  Great song, and wonderful video - as is your normal.

She always wore the Bedouin wedding gowns, never anything else, from late '69 (post-Woodstock) to '76. After that she still incorporated them ingeniously into her clothing at times. As you've probably noticed in videos from the late Seventies and throughout the Eighties, she did vary her dress style, but always in her own distinctive ways, loving colour (yes, I know, spellcheck, but I'm Australian) and pattern, and layers, often eccentrically mis-matched. Then in the Nineties she resurrected the Bedouin gowns and is still wearing them today. The photo is clearly of her on stage in, I'd say, the early Seventies. Yes, it's her chair. She's probably standing upon arriving or leaving the stage. As for the music stand or mike stand? I'm not sure. But now I'm wondering again, as I did years ago, IS it a painting?? That is possible. Good to run into you here, I'm off to bed, it's almost Friday here. :)

(I just added some stuff to the previous comment, just in case you've read it before I did so.)

I think it's a double mike stand, not a music stand.

Ian, I cannot find that picture in a google search. You may have a real treasure there. I think you are right about the time frame. I had at first thought it was later. Maybe taking a final bow?
