Melanie - Miranda Lyrics

Do you have some problems
Would you like someone to solve them
Would you like someone to share in your misery
Well I don't know the answer
But I know a flamenco dancer
Who will dance for you if you will dance for me
Her name's Miranda
She's a Rudolph Valentino fan
And she doesn't claim to understand
She bakes brownies for the boys in the band

And every Sunday morning
When the sermon lines are forming
And Saturday night is a memory that I gave
She's busy in the pantry
Far away from Elmer Gantry
Who is busy baking souls that he may save
Everybody's soul but Miranda
She's a Rudolph Valentino fan
And she doesn't claim to understand
She bakes brownies for the boys in the band

At the bar we're gin & scotchin
While the F.B.I. is watching
And they're tape recording every other word
The Bartender is bleeding
Pardon me I was just leaving
As another cleaver voice repeats absurd absurd
Everybody's talking about Miranda
She's a Rudolph Valentino fan
And she doesn't claim to understand
She bakes brownies for the boys in the band
Her name's Miranda
Her name's Miranda
Her name's Miranda

This was the concert I saw on PBS that "re-introduced" me to Melanie. (I recalled "Brand New Key" from when I was still a little kid.) I was in high school when I saw this performance (and was smitten by this beautiful lady), and it sent me searching for the album "Gather Me" my older sisters had gotten for Christmas way back when it came out. I found it, put it on the stereo and loved the other songs on that album, Circle, especially, and then a year or so later bought the LP Photograph, which I also loved. I also ended up buying Phil Och's "Chords of Fame" double LP because of this concert. (He didn't supplant Dylan, still my all-time favorite, but it certainly introduced me to another folkie of the 1960s who had even more radical broadsides than early Bob and music that was provocative and oftentimes beautiful — Crucifixion, especially.)

I️ was at this concert. Melanie and Dave Van Ronk were my favorites at the show. Dave sung He was a Friend of Mine. Will never forget it. Wonder if the whole show can be seen somewhere??

The close up at 2:50 makes my heart flutter!
The most gorgeous woman with the beautiful name of Melanie.
Chords of Fame is one of my favorites of Phil's, your cover of it is flawless. Your cover of so many songs you sang are better than the originals , Ruby Tuesday,Lovers Cross, Wild Horsed, Don't think Twice and Chord of Fame to name a few. California Dreaming is so underrated, you nailed that song with your jazzy version of it.
Again I say to you Melanie, I'm so happy you and your music were in my life, you were the highlight in my life, you are priceless.

Wow! I've known about that recording for years and had no idea that he mentioned you at the beginning. Unbelievable! I always thought his acoustic performances of Chords of Fame were influenced by yours, I guess I was right!
