They kind of do it with paintings with some preservation methods.

I personally found the 2012 remaster of this better than the original. The 2011 remaster of Peace Sells, not so much. If the original master was great, don't bother redoing it. However, if it was at best kinda okay, go ahead and do it better if you think you can do it. If we're talking about AC/DC albums (my forte) I'd say leave Powerage in its original form, but Ballbreaker's CD master was sub-par, so it should be remastered to sound closer to the vinyl master, which sounded much better.
