In fact I heard a lot of stuff from the three records I didn´t play on, especially ”Endgame” (2009) and I was like ”Whoa!” There´s a lot of cool stuff that I remember writing at soundchecks with Nick (Menza) and Marty (Friedman) and different things and I was happy to hear those turning into songs, but by the time we got done with ”Dystopia” the vault was empty. However, I don't think Metallica and Megadeth can really be compared. They're on opposite sides of the thrash metal spectrum, so to speak. Also, compared to 80s and 90s Metallica, it is a close call.

@Keeling Charles Metallica lost their "Sound" in the black album. Cliff died with the band sadly, u cant compare metallica today because they arent as good as they used to be.

They didn't lose their sound, they expanded on it. Metallica is power-heavy metal, not just thrash, which is quite niche, and then Load and Reload are fantastic alt metal albums, Bleeding Me and Cure standing out for me, and St Anger is a great nu metal album. But if you mean they lost the purely thrash sound of everything up to AJFA, then yes, I agree.

3. Youthanasia- Amazing album, dark, powerful, fantastic
4. Thirteen- Very underrated, fantastic hard rock album
5. Rust in Peace- Overrated in my opinion, but still a great album
6. United Abominations- Very good album, but a couple weak tracks hold it back
7. So Far, So Good...So What- Still great sitting between two giants
8. The System Has Failed- Great album, but I hate the guitar tone
9. Cryptic Writings- Solid album, no real issues, just a bit boring
10. Countdown to Extinction- Overrated but still good
11. The World Needs a Hero- Decent album, just some weak tracks in there

13. Super Collider- Weak, only about 3 or 4 good songs

KIMB , Peace sells and some stuff on SFSGSW & RIP were written at the same period (1980-1984), so to rate KIMB so low doesnt make any sense from that fact alone. Hangar 18 main riff already written before Dave joined Metallica.

I think the title track and also Poison Was The Cure are quite weak. Lucretia isn't great, and Dawn Patrol are okay, the latter obviously being a filler, and then the other four are amazing. So personally I think I would only rate it 6 or 7/10.

There were few reasons why Super collider sounds like what it is. The death of Dave mother in law due to dementia, the label forced them to write radio material again (like Capitol did on Risk), David said the label also gave them a very short deadline to put another new album just shortly after they've just finished the Thirteen tour.

Dystopia was fucking epic. Hope you found it
