For the longest time, I listened to the Nirvana cover of this song (highly recommend.) At the end of the cover, the lead singer of Nirvana says "That was the Meat Puppets." I mistook this to mean that I was listening to the actual original song "Lake of Fire" and the Meat Puppets just sounded a whole hell of a lot like Nirvana. It didn't come up in conversation and I wasn't corrected until EARLIER THIS YEAR.

2019 and i'm just hearing this version. nirvanas version is good. but this version is just raw. sort of why new cowboy westerns movie aren't as good as old school westerns. not dusty, grimey enough. I think I like this version more. just feels gutter to me, and I like it gutter.

honestly, better than the nirvana cover. I love nirvana, but their covers were more like a PSA (Hey this sick ass band exists check them out) than a good cover. Also rly dig the vaselines, who nirvana also covered several times.

Why does everyone have to be so judgmental: this one is better than that one, that one's better than this one... The Meat Puppets were great musicians and great songwriters,; they have their version, and deserve a bit of leniency because they wrote it, Kurt Cobain was a great singer (ok, and pretty good songwriter too), and he has his version. I'm just thankful that they got to combine their talents and immortalize what is hands down one of the baddest electric rock guitar riffs of the eighties/nineties! It's really too bad they never did a full rock band version together...

these guys wrote some amazing songs. unfortunately every song sounds like they were high on acid, but its still kinda cool sounding. kinda like a garage band
