Meat Loaf - Left In The Dark Lyrics

You don't have to sneak in the door
Just come on into the room
I've been lying in our bed in the dark all alone
And I've been waiting, I've been waiting for you
There's been no reason to move
It's been as still as a tomb
I needed you oh so badly tonight
But I guess you had better things to do

I should have known that it was coming to this
But I must have been blind
I bet you still got a trace of his love in your eyes
And you still got his eyes on your mind
You swore you'd be with me at seven o'clock
Now it's a quarter to three
Well whatever you got and whoever it was
I guess you couldn't get it for me
Whatever you got and whoever it was
I guess you couldn't get it for me

I know that you love me
There's no need to talk
I see the look in your eyes and I got the proof
And there are no lies on your body
So take off your dress
I just want to get at the truth

And there are so many things I just got to know
You tell me who!
You tell me where!
You tell me when!
Ah, but don't tell me now, I don't need any answers tonight
I just need some love, so turn out the light, and I'll be left in the dark again
I just need some love, so turn out the light, and I'll be left in the dark again
Left in the dark again...

I should have known that it was coming to this
But I must have been blind
I bet you still got a trace of his love in your eyes
And you still got his eyes on your mind
You swore you'd be with me at seven o'clock
Now it's a quarter to three
Well whatever you got and whoever it was
I guess you couldn't get it for me
No, I guess you couldn't get it for me

But down in my soul, down in my soul
I know that you love me
There's no need to talk
I see the look in your eyes and I got the proof
And there are no lies on your body
So take off your dress
I just want to get at the truth

And there are so many things I just got to know
You tell me who!
You tell me where!
You tell me when!
Ah, but don't tell me now, I don't need any answers tonight
I just need some love, so turn out the light, and I'll be left in the dark again
I just need some love, so turn out the light, and I'll be left in the dark again
I just need some love, so turn out the light, and I'll be left in the dark again
I just need some love, so turn out the light, and I'll be left in the dark again
I just need some love, so turn out the light, and I'll be left in the dark again
I just need some love, so turn out the light, and I'll be left in the dark again
Left in the dark

[Spoken:]
Who made the very first move?...

  12. S.... D....

So much truth in this song. About life about love still about everything that counts

  13. S.... D....

The best song from meat loaf

  14. l.... t....

I feel left in the dark at the moment been like it for weeks on edge even though I have great family and friends

  15. .... ....

Neither steinman or meat loaf can compare with the version of Barbra Streisand, she had the best vocals

  16. K.... K....

Love this song Steinman writing at his best the lyrics must relate to everyone been there done that 😢

  17. i.... ....

Meat loaf had one beautiful thing: not a very popular boy on high school but a true lovely heart who sang with deeply love feelings. He deserved performing his beautiful songs. He deserved to go far and far away on his carrer but that never happened. Im sure most people in the world still loving his music performance since the past until nowadays. So beautiful this track in the voice of barbra streisand

  18. C.... M....

I've loved MeatLoaf all my life - he has tracks that perfectly match just about everything I've ever done. This one has got to be to be the one that hits me most right now. As I wait for my wife to come home from yet another "late night at work" or another "weekend away with the girls" - I wish I could be left in the dark rather than experiencing the long slow death of my relationship with her.

    C.... M....

I hope by now you've divorced her.

    C.... M....

    Meat Loaf. Two words!

    C.... M....

Have some self respect and divorce her man.

  19. S.... D....

Streisand sings this WAY BETTER than him.

    S.... D....

Iv listened to this once a day since I first heard it with good and bad memories stil the best singer ever

  20. M.... J....

sooo Beautifull also the pics I think you have better things to do ?

  21. l.... ....

I know Meatloaf is a bit of controversial personality to some but, anyone has to admit the man has always had an incredible sense of performance and, when his voice is working right, one powerful projection on any song he tackles... A few years back I wrote a song with a good message in it and, through the whole process, I had him singing it in my mind because few artists I know could deliver the power and, passion of a message like he could... I had a demo of the song cut and, often wondered what he would think of it, if he ever heard it... It's called Bi-Polar Snow... Take a listen to it on my channel and, tell me if you can't imagine it done by him... Of course, I've gotten older now like he has so, the possibility he'd ever do it has long past... But, I still wonder sometimes...

  22. C.... T....

AN ABSOLUTE MUST.. if you like this you just have to listen to the original by Jim Steinmann the artist who wrote it & who is behind so many great artists. I adore Meatloaf but when Jim sings it it's almost like a different record. The depth, the empathy, the pain... he makes you feel every word and leaves you with no doubt that he has been through it. Don't miss the ending, there's still a bit more after the symbols and the bell chimes, its a must to listen to the whole 8 minutes 3 seconds. This track convinced me that the human voice really is one of the most beautiful musical instruments we have. You're absolutely amazing Jim. pls let me know what you guys think

  23. J.... D....

superb, this is a guy who adds every impurity like a note that was supposed to be there. Stuff like that just doesn't happen these days.

  24. d.... c....

love this song, but brings back bad memorys of my ex who i loved to bits cheating on me while i was home with our little girl.

    d.... c....

    dane carter that's aweful

  25. J.... L....

    Good depression song

  26. s.... ....

    One of Jim's FINEST.

  27. J.... N....

Steinman recorded the original version himself on his album, "Bad For Good".

I do like Meatloaf's version better.

  28. B.... G....

    perfect song, realy good number

  29. T.... O....

    Absolutely brill,meatloaf(Marvin).You fucking nailed it.

  30. 2.... ....

Perfect. Amazing what this duo can do to music. Thanks to Meat and Jim. No other music can touch my soul like Steinmans. You are in mine heart and mind forever.

  31. S.... B....

not only does the song left on the dark sound so haunting but after watching the video the complete onsambul is breathe taking, ive spent a whole day reminiscing of nearly his complete work and np matter what his age is will live on to be one of the grestist

    S.... B....

    " onsambul "...lol...try " ensemble "

  32. T.... M....

    good music

  33. E.... T....

Been married for 21 years but this song still make me think of my first love who I'm still friends with but he wants me back and I would luv 2 remember those days 2 but I have kids and a wonderfl hubby now

  34. r.... a....

Love this song, one of Meat's best songs ever, and one of the rare cover versions that's actually better than the original.

    r.... a....

rich allen you really do need to listen to Jim Steinmann singing it himself, the whole eight minutes and three seconds version. it's absolutely amazing and as much as I adore Meatloaf it leaves him standing

  35. S.... M....

Fantastic video to this wonderful song x

  36. S.... R....

    love this song.💖💓💖

  37. W.... B....

Ein fantastischer Song von Jim für Meat! Spitzenmäßig! Habe ich zum Glück schon mit einem Sohn live gesehen und gehört! Meat hat mir von Beginn an gefallen!

  38. v.... ....

I love this! I like both Meat Loaf and Barbara.
    Wonderful. C.

  39. m.... ....

you have taking suicide risk if you falling love, if u ask me.. it's so touching...

    m.... ....

facts. love can kill you love is blind

    m.... ....

    İndeed. I agree with you

  40. D.... L....

I'm a Meatloaf fan but this is horrible shit. Barbara nailed this one!

    D.... L....

    She sure does.

    D.... L....

Disagree. Steinman's original off the Bad for Good album has something that all other Coverdale are missing: emotion. Steinman's less than stellar vocals are more than made up for the brokenhearted grief and sense of loss that is lacking in the more "polished" versions from Meatloaf and Streisand. Sometimes raw feeling trump's professionalism any day of the week.

    D.... L....

    YESSSS! THIS!

  41. S.... S....

I like it but not as much as Barbara's version. Just one opinion, thanks.

    S.... S....

+Sonny Simms IMO this one's better than hers.

    S.... S....

    I agree Sonny

    S.... S....

    Streisand. WTF

  42. f.... ....

Left in the dark is written by Jim Steinman and where originally intended to be recorded by Meat Loaf as a follow up to Bat out of Hell, titled Renegade Angel but he couldn´t do it because of problem with his voice. However, later on he made a new album called - Welcome to the Neighborhood, where he sings - Left in the Dark.

    f.... ....

I wish Meat Loaf could have make it back on the time Jim wrote it, as for "For crying out loud" with the music of the philarmonica orchestra I really can't imagine how magic this song would have been.....

    f.... ....

fagermannen01 this song is how I feel right now

  43. T.... B....

    not too old

  44. M.... R....

    No, never too old!!
Bob Dylan still kicks ass, why not Meatloaf?

    M.... R....

Mike Rodgers he's got a rare condition MEATLOAF THAT'S WHY

  45. T.... O....

MEAT & JIM AT THERE VERY BEST.LOVE IT.

  46. C.... ....

This shows how incredible he and Steinman are together. Such a shame that they couldnt do Bat 3 together. Because I believe that Meatloaf would have done it again, went to the top, taking over for the rap music that dominated the charts at that time. But we will never know. Sadly now Meat and Jim are far too old.

    C.... ....

Agreed, Meat and Jim had awesome voices, Meat needed to quit about 8 years ago. His voice just doesn't serve him any more. I have been a Meat Loaf since about 1994 and have over 20 albums and have seen him live. Come on Meat, better to quit than fade away.

    C.... ....
