I often watch this for a number of reasons,particularly because I consider you a diamond-the-rough vocalist that momentarily captured my heart with your 1st seated version of this timeless classic on American Idol and made cry tears of joy, back when it was still somewhat unacceptable for a man to openly show such emotion! And also, to remember that there is a beautiful opening verse that often is not included and is one that I was unaware of until you sang it that first time! It is more memorable than a first kiss and it always brings a tear to mine eyes! Today I wish upon a star that someday you will be performing close enough to Boston that I will get to see you perform it live, along with all of your beautiful music! And if that day never comes, then I would at least like to say thank you!

She never really got the credit she deserved by the judges besides a few performances. These days, the contestants are mostly generic singers and are praised like crazy. It was definitely a very different time then. Either way, she is an incredible talent and she is very successful now. Her talent has taken her so far! She was always the real winner to me!

If you listen to Jane Monheit's and Eva Cassidy's versions, you'll hear where she got 99% of the phrasing for this. I love her voice, but I wish they would have given credit to the other singers whose creativity provided this phrasing.

Beautiful voice and performance by Katherine, my favorite all time performance of American Idol. And, she was so comfortable with sitting there belting this out. No anxiety or fakeness. I come back to watch this periodically. Never forgot about it like I do all the other performances on AI.

Although the year Daughtery was participating, they had David Archeletta and David Cook (the winner). That was a tough year to decide.
