Philippe Doucet lightning is a symbol on the album for the things we chase that aren't God (money, status, etc.) Even in this searching God is with us and longs to meet us. It also is a reference to the lights and production element of what he does. This concept parallels when God appears to Elijah not in the earthquake, the wind, or the fire, but in the whisper.

I imagine somebody out on a long walk trying to pray and seeking answers from God, in the rain, and there’s thunder and lightning around them but they aren’t afraid and they keep praying and seeking God. I had that happen to me one time. I guess it could mean a bunch of other things too depending on the person who hears it. something to do with God speaking to us when everything just seems intense on either side. Good question of you to ask though versus just taking it for granted.

I guess you could argue that after the thunder is silence, and you don't know where the next bolt of lightning is coming. In the silence, when we don't know what God is saying. 'what for all the miles have you to say, where you there beside me this whole way? You always find me in between the thunder and the lightning'
