McMillan, John Mark - No Country Lyrics
I feel the tremors, rumors of war
Upon the surface of my door
And I got no place to call my country
I got no place to call my country, anymore
I don't have the drugs
And I got no place to call my country
I got no place to have my love, anymore
Yeah, when the bomb went off
We were dancing in the kitchen with a neon cross
Yeah, baby I'm lost
Never saw it coming, never thought I'd wake up
With no place to call my country
I got no place to call my country, my country
I know everyone of us are hypocrites
But still I never thought that it would come to this
No place to love, no place to exist
I got no place to raise my kids
All of my reserves are compromised
And you can punch a hole in all my alibis
I know that I'm wrong, but you don't know you're blind
Do you see me? Do you see me at night?
And yeah when the bomb went off
We were dancing in our kitchen with a neon cross
Yeah, baby I'm lost
Never saw it coming, never thought I'd wake up
With no place to call my country
I got no place to call my country, my country
No place to call my country
I feel the tremors and rumors of war
Up on the surface of my door
(No place to call my home)
(No place to call my home)
And yeah when the bomb went off
We were dancing in our kitchen with a neon cross
Yeah when the call came back
I was standing in the shadow of a panic attack
Yeah, I don't know where I'm at
I never saw it coming, never thought I'd wake up
With no place to call my country
I got no place to call my country
(No place to call my home)
My country
No place to call my country, my home
(No place to call my home)
My home
(No place to call my home)
(No place to call my home)
(No place to call my home)
(No place to call my home)

This is still one of my favourite pieces of art.
this song speaks deeply. its basically everyones fear when it comes to war. #Alabamabirmingham
"No place to put all my groceries"
Brilliant
Trump2020, but you do make great songs and have amazing talent.
This is a powerful song with a vision .All the words turn to be prophetic .I do not recognize my homeland country as well as my adoptive country..Thus I have no place and space to call my country .I just raise my heart and mind and thanks God to accept my citizenship
Arizona baby!!
for old men
John Mark- there will be many who say "I never saw it coming", but the gates to the new Jerusalem will be open to all who believe...soon!
Awful lyrics
What is happening to Christian artists these days? The devil has really misguided them. Please get a grip and write songs for church not some indie radio station
Horrible
Not sure I’m understanding this song correctly... Is he referring to living in a really broken world and a believers real home in heaven? Or the whole immigration thing that’s is going on? Can someone break it down for me. Would really appreciate it.
On the lightning sessions album there's a track called "No Country // Dancing in the Kitchen..." where McMillan explains more of the story behind the song - it's inspired by a radio story of a restuarant owner that ended up assisting both sides of a conflict, and neither country would accept him and his family. The song is about questioning what a country actually is, and acknowledging that human's created countries.
p.s. also, check out the lightning sessions version of No Country, which is more focused on refugees (it's really good!)

Freaking brilliant.
Your awesome john
i'm confused why don't i hear this on k-love
I have mixed emotions with Refugees. As when America (Pearl Harbor) was attacked we pulled together as a nation to fight for our freedom. With Syria, most the refugees are young males and I don't see them fighting for their country as we did here in America. At least in Iraq, you have the Iraqi troops fighting for their freedom and you don't see them leaving their country in droves like Syria. They are fighting against ISIS. This war on terrorism is very real and I hope it comes to an end, so that the refugees can return back to their country and rebuild again. I just heard on the news today that ISIS is urging their supporters to poison European and American foods at grocery stores. I like what 2 Chronicles 7:14 says - If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Every time I hear this song it reminds me of all of my beautiful refugee friends I met working in camps, and the gratitude they have despite all that they've gone through, even having no country to call their own. God bless Syria and Iraq! ❤️
So much Springsteen in this, so good
I heard this song for the first time when you and Josh Garrels came to Milwaukee on the Revelators tour! It is definitely an anointed song and it really touched me! It was a pleasure to meet you and hopefully our paths will cross again. God bless you!
why is it not available in my country 😭😭🤕
Deus os abençoe vocês! Curto bastante seu som! pwoer
I feel like this trying to go to church anymore.
John must of wrote this when everyone thought Hilary was sure to win.
Saw him last Thursday along with Josh Garrels. Both men are extremely passionate about refugees whose lives have been ripped apart by war and disaster. It is truly sad that our government is so reluctant to help these people.
You're being facetious, right?
This video reminds me the movie Into The Wild , great job of the director.
Jared Hogan is brilliant.
I think it is shot on canon c300 , so dreamy.
Beautiful song with powerful words. Lots of happening nowadays.True we do not recognize lots of countries on earth, all belong to the earth and their leaders speak as they are from earth and will be there permanently. They forget the one who comes form above is above all.The one who comes from heaven ,our country is above all .

Hey John... this song isn't about American politics, right?
Loosely. It speaks of the refugee crisis. I saw him last Thursday and he made sure to clarify that it was not a political song because he hates politics

"I know everyone of us are hypocrites

No place to love, no place to exist
I got no place to raise my kids

And I love the falsetto when you sing. "I feel the tremors of rumors of WAR." It's sick!
... You're sick!
Corbin Fawley oh no no no! YOUR sick!
What an amazing song and video!
You always hit the exposed nerves of my heart. When other believers just don't understand me, I find a kinship with your lyrics. Reminds me that I'm not alone. Thank you for your deep words that unsettle the dry believers.
John Mark, I don't know if you read the comments or not but I want to write this to you. I just listened to this song for the first time today and I looped it and have been listening to it for at least an hour and a half. I want to thank you for reminder that while our country affairs effect us and the world we don't call this place our home, it's not our country. My favorite is, "When the bomb went off, we were dancing in the kitchen with a neon cross" In the midst of fear, anger, and sadness, The Cross brings light and joy. I'm looking forward to March.
Amen Matt. Love your reminder to look to the Cross for our hope and peace, light and joy.
Absolutely love this. Thank you for deciding to keep making music..
John's the man, really looking forward to Mercury & Lightning.
Yes, this video does really capture a complicated mood very effectively. Love verse 2!
"I know that I'm wrong, but you don't know your blind. Do you see me? Do you see me at night?"
I totally feel like this today.
I think Kinfolk wants their overexposed Pastel filter back.
Jk. great video!
love love this!!!!
Still trying to connect all the dots of the narrative in video, but the lyrics are inspiring and shots are interesting. Thanks for sharing this work!
Make Soft Rock Great Again
I wish I could like this video more than once. :)
Love it!
Great song, great video, John. Congrats!
genial canciones
THANK YOU
WE NEEDED THIS SONG!!! Love the visuals. Always. JMM everything you do is Godsent
The video is not available. Is blocked for the Brazil?
