McLean, Don - Castles In The Air Lyrics
And if she asks you why you can tell her that I told you
That I'm tired of Castles in the Air
I've got a dream I want the world to share an' castle walls
Just leave me to despair
A dream come true, I'll live there 'til I die
I'm asking you, to say my last goodbye
The love we knew, ain't worth another try
Save me from all the trouble and the pain
I know I'm weak but I can't face that girl again
Tell her the reasons why I can't remain
Perhaps she'll understand if you tell it to her plain
Oh, but how can words express the feel of sunlight
I need a country woman for my wife
I'm city born but I love the country life
For I will not be part of her Cocktail-Generation Partner's Waltz,
Devoid of all romance
The music plays and everyone must dance
I'm bowing out, I need a second chance
Save me from all the trouble and the pain
I know I'm weak but I can't face that girl again
Tell her the reasons why I can't remain
Perhaps she'll understand if you tell it to her plain
And if she asks you why you can tell her that I told you
That I'm tired of Castles in the Air
I've got a dream I want the world to share an' castle walls
Just lead me to despair

Beautiful
One of my favourite Don songs. I bought Tapestry in 1972 and like the faster version. This slower arrangement , from 1981 , is also beautiful. Love the video. Please listen to the song " Courage " . Thank you.https://youtu.be/98R3xW-hZI4
yes i'm still listening in 2020 and will be as long as God allows me to
Mine too, a favorite song since I heard it many years ago always on my repertoire
Love this
Que saudades de um passado cheio de romantismo.
I think the fast version was the original, and this slow version was a remake.
Don't let anyone build castle walls around you....it's a lonely existence....

Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought.
Gonna kill myself and want this to be played at my funeral
i know for a fact i'll be listening to this in 2025.....how about you?
Great Lyrics and a great voice.....William
I have to listen to this song, not just once. I loved it for years.
Does anyone know if there are two versions of this song? I don't remember it with a back beat and tambourine. Maybe it's just my poor memory...
I like it that other people like it !
2020 anyone?
He may want me gone but he loved me once like no one else could
Don McClean was the last, greatest American POET!
Absolutely love this.
Beautiful! This one and also "And I Love Her So" were the best ever!
Songs are like _Time Machines_ ! 🕒 Once I started listening to this song, I closed my eyes and I was instanley transported back to *1972* . 📡 I remember exactly what I was doing, where I was
and even who I was with. Its amazing!!! I wish I could go back to 1972, ..Body and Soul! ⭐
Love this song! Still good as it was when first released back in 1972. It was the B-side to his single "Vincent" 💘 They don't make songs like this any more... So sad!
great song writer, great artist. one of my favorites but has to take a back seat to Vincent and American Pie IMO; Don McLean immense talent and hard worker at is craft
where have all the good songs go its all this rap shit
"Lost time is never found again."
Great song, because it gives me such a good feeling ☺️
This sounds so good, reminds me of John Denver - best music came out of the 70's.

awesome ... just amazing
This track can be found on his 1981 studio album-Believers [Side 1 Track 1] and what a great song is absolutely beautiful for me.
Amo!!!♥️

one of my favorite songs
Luv this song
510 oxygen thieves. Probably millennial snowflakes.
Somehow this song squeezes my heart and makes me so sad.. such a feeling of deep loss and pain. And yet I love to listen to it again and again.
In spite of what the poster of this video states, this is NOT the original. The original, released in 1971, was a faster-tempo, less-instrumental version and was McLean's 1st single. This is an updated version, released in 1981.
If you want to get really fussy, it's "castles"- plural, not "castle."
"For I will not be part of her Cocktail Generation™... Partner's waltz...
Devoid of all romance...
The music plays and everyone must dance...
I'm bowing out...I need a second chance..."
Really great lyrics...images of a Victorian Royal Dinner Party...grand dresses...lots of wigs and powdered faces...
Maybe John Malkovich dancing with Glenn Close as he eyes Uma Thurman?!? 👀🍸👻🍸
Great song, but the original version which I prefer is faster.

Castelos No Ar
E se ela lhe perguntar por quê, você pode dizer a ela que eu disse
Que eu estou cansado de castelos no ar
Eu tenho um sonho que queria compartilhar com o mundo e paredes de castelo
Apenas me deixam em desespero
Apenas me deixam em desespero
Gosto por de mas dessa canção.

One for Brother Alan in Heaven, you loved this song. miss you Alan.See you one day I am sure.
Remember seeing Don in 1974 ( city hall Sheffield) Leslie Duncan opened the show. 2 Beautiful voices.
With the Grace of God I was able to get away 🏃 but the pain lasted for years 🇱🇷🍺.
Never knew he was half Italian, one of my favorites
So soothing and relaxing. Thank you Don McLean.
i prefer the faster version of it....
god bless song makers and poets we need in them tol lead us out of the mess this world is in
Love it!! M xx
When a song gives you goosebumps no more need be said...
Great song on so many levels -- you can really feel the poetry and emotion.
Love these song of Don McLean, remembering my high school days, almost some decade ago.
My Grandads favourite song. He moved from Kilburn London to Hertfordshire "in the sticks" as he would call it. This is where he met my Nan. He would always make me listen to the line "I'll meet a country woman for my wife. I'm city born, but I love the country life". We played it his funeral, and this song always reminds of the good times, smoking a fat one and sipping a whiskey with him.
"B" side of the 7" vinyl single "Vincent". Two utter classics on one piece of plastic. I'm not sure which is the best, although Vincent would induce tears in my Mum.
Super, I'm city born but I love the country life 😀
I have to inform anyone watching this that it is not the original version (as stated here) ....it is the 1980 slow (and in my humble opinion) the inferior version of the song.
The real original is the (United Artists) B-side of "Vincent" which is a better and faster version of this song.
A really good alternative version is the 1976 live version from the album "Solo" where McLean segues this song and "Three Flights Up" into a solo 'tour de force'..... (link below....)

When i hear this it's the glorious 70's again! I would give anything to go back then and experience it! I really miss it!
Me too. Life seemed so much simpler. Songs moved you and ppl werent as cold. I miss the 70s. This song makes me long for those days. Bittersweet memories of a simpler time.
Anybody out there listening to this classic in 2020? Don McLean’s poetry is marvelous.
prefer the faster version though
Oh yes - anything from Don McLean is magic
An amazing man and ARTIST✌✌✌✌playing it right now for my Valentine
J Pathak met him for the first time on Pete Seeger’s sloop Clearwater on the Hudson River in Fishkill, New York
Wished I could of commented in 1972!
His heart is in this song!
I'm 52 Heard this this morning on the radio for the first time what a fabulous song I can stop playing it .beautiful
fantastic song
Amoooooo
Another masterpiece by Don McLean! It was not a popular air play song, but it certainly is one of my absolute favorites of his. Thank you my sadly deceased brother Ken for introducing me to Don McLean's music way back in the 70's. RIP Ken. I'll forever miss you and think of you when I listen to this wonderful song.
Spectacular orchestration in the slow lane 👍
This is far better than any of his famous songs .
Love these song of Don MacLean, played it over and over. Ok
His best by a long shot
I've always loved this song, but I had a very magical moment that makes me love it even more. I was taking the ferryboat from Bremerton to Seattle one morning, when a lyric line perfectly fit what I was seeing. "Hills of forest green where the mountains touch the sky...." I heard that just as I looked at a tiny, uninhabited island covered in evergreens, in Puget Sound, with Mount Rainier poised perfectly behind it. I see it in my head every time I hear this song now, thanks so much for sharing!
I returned from Korea on Assignment and my wife of only just a little over a year met me in Seattle. We actually stayed in the same room we had rented a year before when i was leaving for Korea. I had gotten a "Dear John" Letter and came back to Seattle instead of going to St. Louis. She was not there when I got there but after taking a nap, I woke and She was sitting in the room. I swear it was like falling in love again when I first met Her in Barstow, California. We went out on Your Puget Sound three days in a row and after seeing Her on a plane to Portland, I left for a stop in Chicago and then on to Fort Benning, Georgia to began a new life for Us. It didn't happen however, my new Assignment had me off to Florida soon as I checked into my Unit. Like You, I always see my time in Oregon and Washington State when I hear this Beautiful Song. GOD BLESS!!!
AREN'T MEMORIES BRILLIANT
I was on the Seattle to Bremerton run back in 1981. i loved that ride and wish i could go back and have it be 1981again. One evening i was leaning against the pier in Seattle at Ivar's eating fried fish while tossing french fries to sea gulls who were experts act catching them mid flight as they circled over head when a destroyer passed close by under the setting sun. What an amazing sight and a special place. Where else can you see a cool ship pass by right in front of you while enjoying dinner!
🎶🎶👍👍
É uma música tão linda, que chega doer 😭😭😭
Alguém ouvindo em Outubro de 2.019?
😍🤩😘👏♥️🎶🙏🌺🇧🇷
Eu simplesmente amo essa música 😍
Another song of Don's that didn't get the notice that it should have back in the 70's. It's just a great song along with Starry Starry night. This is what music should be about. Just Timeless.
Lily - Sincerely sorry for picking nits but that song is not titled “Starry Starry Night”; it’s titled “Vincent”. That said, I agree that Don’s most famous song overshadows the other elegantly beautiful songs he wrote. It irritates me no end when someone makes a list of one hit wonders and includes Don McLean on it. “Vincent” is my personal favorite but “Castles In The Air”, “Empty Chairs”, “And I Love You So” are all right up there.
@Jerome Taperman That's ok I know that it's name "Vincent". I just love his music.
Very beautiful but the city can be romantic too, with culture beautiful music and architecture
Q PREVILEGIO OUVIR ESTA MUSICA E GOSTOSA DE MAIS
I love this so much. Reminds of me telling my wife that is what I wanted to do. Well she prevailed. But this song keeps me happy. I am not a part of the cocktail generation though.
💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
Its a beautiful song
