McKennitt, Loreena - The Wexford Carol Lyrics
Good people all, this Christmas-time
Consider well and bear in mind
What our good God for us has done
In sending his beloved Son.
To God with love this Christmas day
In Bethlehem upon that morn
There was a blessed Messiah born.
The night before that happy tide
The noble Virgin and her guide
Were long time seeking up and down
To find a lodging in the town
But mark how all things come to pass
From every door repelled alas!
Was but an humble ox's stall.
There were three wise men from afar
Directed by a glorious star
And on they wandered night and day
Until they came where Jesus lay
And when they came unto that place
Where our beloved Messiah was
They humbly cast them at his feet
With gifts of gold and incense sweet.
Near Bethlehem did shepherds keep
Their flocks of lambs and feeding sheep
To whom God's angels did appear
Which put the shepherds in great fear
"Prepare and go," the angels said
"To Bethlehem , be not afraid
For there you'll find this happy morn
A princely babe, sweet Jesus born."
With thankful heart and joyful mind
The shepherds went the babe to find
And as God's angel had foretold
They did our Saviour Christ behold
Within a manger he was laid
And by his side the Virgin maid
Attending on the Lord of life
Who came on earth to end all strife.

It's time to think about the meaning of Christmas...
Best version yet of this beautiful mesmerizing melody.
This encapsulates the true spirit of Christmas that I used to know so many years ago - not this commercialised circus it's become now.

History and facts about The Wexford Carol.
"The Wexford Carol", sometimes known by its first verse "Good people all this Christmas time", is claimed to be one of the oldest extant Christmas carols
This lovely tune, remarkable for its haunting Mixolydian mode (one of the Medieval Church musical modes) possibly 12th century. The words are maybe older than the tune, which likely came from Irish Music during the late 18th - 19th century
It is possible that the song is as old as the 12th century.
Wexford Carol is a traditional Irish Christmas Carol.
Irish title: Carúl Loch Garman.
Originating from County Wexford (a county in Ireland).
The lyrics is about the birth of Jesus Christ.
The carol is also known by the first line of the song: “Good people all, this Christmas time”.
William Grattan Flood (1859-1928) transcribed the song from a local singer and published the lyrics in the Oxford Book of Carols.
Wexford Carol has been performed and recorded by choirs all over the world.
