McKennitt, Loreena - The English Ladye And The Knight Lyrics
It was an English ladye bright,
(The sun shines fair on Carlisle wall,)
And she would marry a Scottish knight,
For Love will still be lord of all.
When he shone fair on Carlisle wall;
But they were sad ere day was done,
Though Love was still the lord of all.
Her sire gave brooch and jewel fine,
Where the sun shines fair on Carlisle wall;
Her brother gave but a flask of wine,
For ire that Love was lord of all.
For she had lands both meadow and lea,
For he swore her death, ere he would see
A Scottish knight the lord of all.
That wine she had not tasted well
(The sun shines fair on Carlisle wall)
When dead, in her true love's arms, she fell,
For Love was still the lord of all!
He pierced her brother to the heart,
So perish all would true love part
That Love may still be lord of all!
And then he took the cross divine,
Where the sun shines fair on Carlisle wall,
And died for her sake in Palestine;
So Love was still the lord of all.
Now all ye lovers, that faithful prove,
(The sun shines fair on Carlisle wall)
Pray for their souls who died for love,
For Love shall still be lord of all!

Her voice beings me. To my knees,
She' has a, beautiful voice,
Can someone explain to me the tragedy of this beautiful story... I would appreciate
Pray to the one who died for love and took on our sins for us to have a chance to ask for his wonderful counsel
I have a house a car and food. While my brothers and sisters are lucky to have their head's on their shoulders for the sake of Jesus the prince of peace. ;.;

Nice authentic church choral harmony to complement the versicles. I'd go 1 (c-, g-6 to the Ab) this wI'll help eliminate parallel 8vs

Where is she from? Anyone know ?
So beautiful
Would this be a good example of the Dorian mode?
That can't possibly be the way you pronounce "Carlisle" ??
Ivan Kovač
That is the way you pronounce Carlisle. It's the same pronunciation as "Carlyle." From Old English "Carleol" which was borrowed from Old Welsh "Caer Lualid."

This favoured Coleen rips every Keltic heart from Eire,Ulster, Cymru, Scotia, the Albion & our precious children in the Dominions...we Falter, we Fail, occasionally we Fall, but we Rise again like a Phoenix to lead a troubled World. F.

The Knight Lancelot was by far-landed Welsh, his Lady-charge was a Princess by Gloucester Court carried on southerly barge to her Royal suitor, Arthur Pendragon, sired Prince by Uther Pendragon, both were Keltic Kings of lineage.
Their Court was raised in Tintagel, Kernow, by Camelot, there was no Northerly or Scottish influence in their Match or Heritage, it was southerly Kelt despite an interesting poem later composed in false romance...read your History, accept our Legend, F.
She reduces me to tears with every song .....so beautiful
Seeing her live is otherworldly. That her voice is how it sounds is...beyond incredible.
Doesn't she tour in the United States??
Did Loreena herself write this poetic lyric? It is so beautiful.
It's a little poem from Walter Scott ; )
Only true love existed back then. Think, "the one" for you could be long gone...
Beautiful and atmospheric. Lovely voice xx
ΘΕΙΚΗ ΦΩΝΗ ΥΠΕΡΟΧΗ
That middle English spelling in the title is a nice touch.
She is a gift from the universe. Very proud as a Canadian to see her perform in Italy
The Lady Guinevere at 19 summers, was escorted on the Royal Barge to Camelot by Lancelot, Arthur`s Champion Knight for a wedding to that King in Camelot by Tryst.
But they Loved, Passioned, and fell between each other as Lovers..
Lancelot never wooed or courted another, she looked kindly upon him till he died, tying her colours to his lance at every joust as Queens Champion, but he was his King`s Man and bore that Monarch much later to the shores of Lake Avalon for the return of Excalibur on Arthur`s mortal wounding by Mordred, (whom he had slain in fair combat)
It was the Knight of the Lake who tore away Arthur`s doublet sleeve to reveal the sacred Red Dragon of Pendragon birth-mark to the Lady of the Lake as she accepted that holy sword by return, F.
Sounds almost prophetic
Penetrating...
Triste historia de amor cantada con una maravillosa voz!
I had privilage to meet her and had some chat on a signature day 3-4 years ago in Istanbul.
That's great! Having visited Istanbul last August and immersed myself in the art, architecture, food, people (oh just to go to the Grand Bazaar just once more!), I can well see why it inspires her.
u r from ?
A very beautiful voice and a haunting melody that seems to require repeating.

@Albert Larangan Thank you a lot. Though I learned that word already, it will be useful for newcomers
I have got a personal admiration to this lady! and I love sing her songs
Antonio luiz Garcia sobrinho same here
Yes ladies only like fighters. Knights, soldiers, thugs, what have you. So learn to fight men or you will never get laid.
@***** yes, keep your weapons right by the door, that way when someone breaks in while you sleep they will have quick access to them, lol.
@***** Ah, Amaranta Sama, have you passed the Chunin exams yet?
@ggtamayo but what if standing up for your family needs to involve violence?
@The Top 100 AMVs of all time! If you read back to what I've said, you'll know my response to that. I never said that violence is never okay. Simply that there is a difference between violence and defending yourself and your own.
+ggtamayo Well, that's still fighting and violence, but used to protect, not to attack.
como sin saber su idioma igual se entiende y sobre todo transmite, gracias Lorrena
There is no end to her brilliance!
viola de gamba?
Sounds like it could be.
goosebumps entire song !!! <3 <3 <3 <3
Loreena always makes me cry...and I am a big jerk.
I guess you're now on your way to be a very kind person.
Wow, the harmonics between the instruments in this song are absolutely awesome.
Takes me back a thousand years when I lived in medieval england as a monk.
@tweetietheawesome
this conversation reminds me of time line by michle kriten
@Set Giovanni what's your brother's name? And what kingdom is that?
I think I was a bard, so I may have written a song about it. ;-)
I was Hung by a Crooked Sheriff, no wait that was much later in my past.
James Northrup, hello! have already you found which part of your life was it?
This gives me a nostalgic feeling...yet today's the first time I've ever heard it...
Preciosa música...Inspiradora de meditaciones y buenos propósitos.
Recomendada.
The peaceful and magical sound makes me proud to live in a part of the world with lots of mountains, forests, water, and a mild temperate climate not unlike England.
amazing poem props to Sir Walter Scot
i would love to walk down the isle to an instrumental of this
So very lovely. She has the voice of an angel. I had no problems at all with the video - - well done indeed!
This music so enchanting...like a gift from the heaven above...I can't put into words what it is but I'm feeling all this peace and love...but can't figure out why...must be her magical voice like an angel from above...very awesome!!!!
Great song, traditional tragic ballad. Loreena treats it really well and the music is very atmospheric.
Beautiful! Just so beautiful..
Another one of her songs worth crying over (the other being "Standing Stones").
I soooo badly wanted to, at least, hear this video but the frequent stoppages make this whole experience one big pain-in-the-ass.... Thanks, anyway.
amazing music!!!
Maybe someone has already said this i don't know. I like to read other peoples comments to see what they think of the song and wonderful artist who made this, and i got a little perturbed. It is my belief that Loreena's music is a compilation of music, and poems gathered from around the world and put together into such an arrangement that although we might be from different religions, cultures, and countries we can still appreciate it for what it is... great music by a great artist
Beautiful beginning with the moving water and the voices.
'So perish all would true love part
That Love may still be lord of all!'
Beautiful <33
Beautiful video and Loreena Mckennitt's voice is MAGICAL. Thank you.
When you or anyone hears this there is hope for this world.Thank you.
A haunting melody....it pierces my soul.
Sir Walter Scott is fantastic!!!<3<3<3
This music is beautiful!!!!!!!! Have I so far read correctly? You were in Sweden? Where exactly in Sweden? Can you speak swedish? For I can. I've been in south (Skane) and in the north (Kiruna).
