McCartney, Paul - Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey Lyrics

We're so sorry, uncle Albert,
We're so sorry if we caused you any pain.
We're so sorry, uncle Albert,
But there's no one left at home
And I believe I'm gonna rain.

We're so sorry, but we haven't heard a thing all day,
We're so sorry, uncle Albert,
But if anything should happen
We'll be sure to give a ring.

"We're so sorry, uncle Albert,
But we haven't done a bloody thing all day.
We're so sorry, uncle Albert,
But the kettle's on the boil
And we're so eas'ly called away."

Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh,
Doo-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh,
Uh-uh -

Hands across the water, heads across the sky,
Hands across the water, heads across the sky.

Admiral Halsey notified me,
He had to have a berth or he couldn't get to sea.
I had another look and I had a cup of tea and a butter pie.

"Butter pie?"
"The butter wouldn't melt, so I put it in the pie, alright!"

Hands across the water, heads across the sky,
Hands across the water, heads across the sky.

Live a little, be a gypsy, get around,
Get your feet up off the ground,
Live a little, get around.

Live a little, be a gypsy, get around,
Get your feet up off the ground,
Live a little, get around.

Hands across the water, heads across the sky,
Hands across the water, heads across the sky.

I grew up in the 70's and Wings was in the charts every other week so it seemed and each song was very catchy.. I listen to the songs now and I go into a state of nostalgia .. Just brings back memories of the times when I was a kid and the people around me. I watch all the latest concerts even though Sir Paul is advancing in years, not being rude but I have to say thank you Sir Paul, I'm proud of being born in 67 and listening to such wonderful music!!!

  33. D.... G....

We were so extremely lucky back then 70's FM radio was just out, Playing all these various classics then, 5 minutes later you would have the Temptations Ball of Confusion followed by Glen Campbell Witchita Line Man followed by The Rolling Stones Brown Sugar followed by Englebert Humperdink Last Waltz, We were all so blessed then to have a realm of knowledge of all various genres of Music, Today! Everything is regulated & in it's own file or box

  34. D.... G....

Paul undeniably is the Worlds Greatest Song Writer ever............

  35. c.... ....

    This record is a masterpiece.

  36. S.... ....

Curious...why do musicians need women sitting with them all the time. This would be a good sociological study.

  37. s.... ....

What is that sound at 1:16.... I don't know.... but its perfect

  42. l.... ....

    God bless Linda.

  43. f.... s....

Then question is, who knows the black triangles and are they all insane

  45. P.... B....

I first had this album age 15 in summer of 71 !

  46. J.... H....

This guys good... he's definitely going places with that voice...

  47. 8.... d....

My dad loved to reference this tune. Radio broken ?

  48. S.... z....

At 2:19 the little horn part just makes me imagine a bunch of clips of the Beatles doing god knows what god knows where even though this is Paul and only Paul’s song 😂

  49. L.... J....

I literally think of "giving it all away..." at least 12 times a day...

  50. L.... J....

Was he using a bullhorn?... "We're so sorry, Uncle Albert.."

  51. M.... S....

I thought nostalgia had lost its taste but here it is fresh as new.

  52. A.... C....

    Great talent, and wonderful memories.
I'm sorry to all this offends, but it's NOT the original Paul McCartney.
The imposter's name is William Shears Campbell
Paul was killed in 1966, and Billy Shears took Paul's place in 1967.
Very talented- but none of the others could stand him, especially John Lennon.
That's why "the Beatles" broke up- because they weren't really the Beatles

    A.... C....

All of that Paul is dead stuff is utter bullshit.

  53. M.... S....

Nice to hear linda in there. Miss her.

  54. T.... T....

ca. August 1971, those were the days, I was 15, literally everyone was singing this for months.

  55. M.... j....

I like it only part I don't understand is.... I think i going to have a rain omg what that means

  56. G.... M....

When I was a child, the speak-sing part used to scare me....especially if I heard this on the radio at night. I am 54 now. It still does in a way.

  57. p.... ....

    Dreamy and brilliant.

  58. G.... B....

Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all men

  59. I.... P....

Is it wrong that I often skip to the halfway point. I mean I like the whole song but that transition is a lot more casual to hear

  60. T.... D....

The first time that I heard this was when I was driving by the Admiral Halsey rest area on the NJ Turnpike in 1971.

  61. P.... K....

What is he doing to that sheep???

  62. B.... W....

    The kettles on the boil

  63. R.... S....

One of the few McCartney solo songs that John praised.

  64. S.... N....

    Poor uncle Albert 😢

  65. D.... W....

    Lazy Hippies... iLOLahLOT (----- Mine!!

  66. R.... R....

Can anyone write like John & Paul and still like so many years later here am I 66 yrs old and love youtube sooo Much

  67. F.... P....

Arguably one of the first lo fi songs

  68. S.... ....

"Butter wouldn't melt so we put it in the pie"

    S.... ....

I've been mishearing those lyrics all this time. I thought the song went: "I had another look and I had a cup of tea and a pot of pie / What hi, wonder what smelled so funny in the pie."

  69. V.... M....

I am currently reading a bio about McCartney called, "Paul McCartney; The Life" written by Philip Norman. I highly recommend this book. It is very well written and well organized. Norman does an excellent job at tying together not only McCartney's life but all those around him. He expands his writing into other people such as his family, the other Beatles, Apple Corp, the Beatles breakup, and the beginning of his solo career, but writer Norman keeps everything minimal and always centers back around Paul. The book makes him more human and details how he has to live day-to-day with the business and life, just as any of us have to, but we never hear about it in the media. Some of the media tall-tales we've hear through the years are true, but many are not, so you'll learn a lot.

It is interesting with how Paul gets ideas for songs. He has an amazing ability to tap into ideas and just write good songs on the spot, about an idea or something that he sees, and he does this naturally, so he was definitely born with this gift. After reading this book, and learning about his strong musical abilities as a child, I truly believe that his IQ was probably well above 150.

  70. J.... F....

Oh I remember this song. 11 years old, summer time, swimming at our favorite pool with a high dive. Talking to girls and surfing. Those were the days.

  71. J.... T....

    It won me over.

  72. B.... B....

Hey wait a minute, they can’t say “bloody.“ That’s a vulgarity, those wankers.

  73. C.... ....

Admit it though, we all come here for Admiral Halsey. Just saying

  74. H.... S....

...Has a 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' feel to it after all these years.

  84. J.... M....
