McCartney, Paul - Teddy Boy Lyrics

This is the story of a boy named ted,
If his mother said, "ted, be good."
He would.

She told him tales about his soldier dad,
But it made her sad, then she'd cry.
Oh my.

Ted used to tell her he'd be twice as good,
And he knew he could, 'cause in his head,
He said:

"mommy don't worry, now teddy boy's here,
Taking good care of you.
Mommy don't worry, your teddy boy's here,
Teddy's gonna see you through."

Then came the day she found herself a man,
Teddy turned and ran, far away,
Ok

He couldn't stand to see his mother in love
With another man, he didn't know.
Oh no.

He found a place where he could settle down
And from time to time, in his head,
He said:

"mommy don't worry, now teddy boy's here,
Taking good care of you.
Mommy don't worry, your teddy boy's here,
Teddy's gonna see you through."

She said:

"teddy don't worry, now mummy is here,
Taking good care of you.
Teddy don't worry, your mummy is here,
Mummy's gonna see you through."

Ooh -
Ah -ooh

This is the story of a boy named ted,
If his mother said, "ted, be good."
He would.

    David King

    Grady K soooo cooool

  8. Жора Орлов

    Paul McCartney Forever

  9. Jim Deferio

This song is horrible and it is a blemish on an otherwise great album. I can see why John Lennon made fun of it.

    George L.

this is a great song, with interesting meaning.

  10. Scott Zaccagnini

The Beatles version is good (John makes it fun) but I prefer this version I think.

  11. Ted Kier

after years of keeping mum, my mom let it slip that this song is about me!thank you for posting this

  12. The Wolf is Awesome

    We need John Lennon

  13. Marcio Ivan

Linda. Recusada pelos Beatles. Talvez se fosse alguma merda da YOKO, Lennon gravaria.

  14. Carlos Cerdán

    La mejor canción del disco

  15. westfield90

    I love Linda’s vocals

  16. N iv

What a sweet voice. People are definitely born to do certain things in life.

  17. Diana Woods

Bloody Awesome Chap 😋. Still cute!!!

  18. Medieval Richard

This is probably my favourite song of Paul's first solo album. For me it's just brilliant! Things which stick out for me is the groovy bass lines, the strong strumming of the acoustics and the wonderful vocals from Macca himself. The structure of the lyrics and phrasing reminds me of a Syd Barrett' esq styled approach. A great track which I used to have in my first ever car on repeat back in 2009, lol!

    Felix Burke

BACK in 2009 ?? That's last week son.

  19. Chris P. Bacon

This is the second best song on the album IMO (after MIA), I dunno why this song is more or less ignored

    Chicho Santana

Yes you are right. Maybe I'm Amazed, Teddy Boy Everynight and Junk. That Would Be Something is a garbage.

    Marcos Paul Real

That Would Be Something is decent. Kreen-Akrore's garbage

  20. George Alexander

I have the Beatles version on a bootleg CD. Not as polished as this, since it was performed live in one of the studios they used for the Get Back sessions. John sings chorus on it.

    Chris P. Bacon

Ah. Where did you get that from?

    George Alexander

Record store in Florida. You can still get it, But there are different versions out there.

    Chris P. Bacon

    Ah. wwho made those?

    Gerry Lee

@George Alexander, I heard it for the first time on the Beatles channel on XM yesterday. They were saying that Paul was trying to decide if he wanted to put it on the Get Back Album. Very interesting cut, In that one you can hear John cutting up a bit on it. Interesting version.

  21. LSweet2007

More like John Lennon needed some Paul McCartney!

    Felix Burke

Oh no not another Paul vs John vs Paul. I thought we all grew up that's old and worn out man.

    subg88

Paul needed Ringo more than anyone

    subg88

Cause the drumming on this album is stiff and lifeless.

    Joy Stinson

LSweet2007 , he DID need Paul personality and musically. You TELL after break up, as his work and styles MUCH admire restricted.

    Joy Stinson

nonrepublicrat , Paul was more independent and could do without George but George provided essential help on some Beatles and Paul songs,

  22. Karl Burtonshaw

    Short and Sweet ! Classic!
Love Linda on those great backing vocals god bless her!

  23. Marvin Castrillo

love the song but like anthology version better

  24. Victor Strauss

So true. Without John is boring...

  25. JellymanJohn

This song needs some John Lennon.

    ksfhhnfan

    Listen to Anthology 3

    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

All of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band needs lots of McCartney

    Num Erical

    "Be good Ted"

  26. Tommy O.

No... I don't think anyone knew that. Golly gee willikers! Anyways, go away troll.

  27. rockyraaacoon

I agree... I love that one so much! the part where john (i think) starts singing is just great even though it doesnt have to do anything with the song haha

  28. leonardaguitar

thanks so much. my husband jokes that i'm getting my doctorate in The Beatles because of how much i think/listen Beatles. nothing better.

  29. ryanc3443

Did anyone else know paul mccarney way in the beatles? i was shocked when my son told me today

  30. Alan Elam

Wow!!! I had never thought of it that way until after reading your comment, and listening again to this track. And I must say, it turns out that you hit the nail on the head; "Teddy Boy" does seem to have a deceptively Kinks-ian feel, and could've easily fit on either "Village Green" or "Arthur". Good Call!!!!

  31. leonardaguitar

seems like Mccartney was thinking about the Kinks with this one. no?

    Joy Stinson

leonardaguitar , never thought of that, but yes.

    swami 7774

Yes, you’re right. Never occurred to me but it does sound Ray Davies-ish.

  32. ced95570

if Paul could play it LIVE!

  33. Miler Blasco

I like the anthology version, when they laugh, it's great this one too, but the other one is so funny haha

  34. reneperezz
