McCartney, Paul - Spies Like Us Lyrics

Ooh ooh what do you do
No one else can dance like you
So what's all the fuss
There ain't nobody that spies like us

Hey hey what do you say
Someone took your plans away
So what's all the fuss
There ain't nobody that spies like us

Hey don't feel afraid
Of an undercover aid
There's no need to fuss
There ain't nobody that spies like us

Spies like us

We don't know the meaning of fear
We play every minute by ear
One for all and all for one
Everybody's on the run
Especially at this time of year

Ooh ooh what do you do
No one else can dance like you
So what's all the fuss
There ain't nobody got spies like us

Hey hey what do you say
No one else can look that way
So what's all the fuss
There ain't nobody got spies like us

We get there by hook or by crook
We don't do a thing by the book
Never needed special clothes
How we did it no one knows
I guess we must have had what it took

Ooh ooh, ooh
Oh when things get tough
(Oh when things get tough)
Guys like us act rough
(Guys like us act rough)

Hey hey what do you say
Someone took your plans away
So what's all the fuss
There ain't nobody that spies like us

Spies like us

McCartney, Paul Spies Like Us Comments
  1. S.... J....

If John were alive during this, Wow what would he say?

  2. M.... #....

0:50. It would be a great runway song.

  3. e.... e....

    HOLY SIA
THANK YOU FOR PENNY LANE AND UR VOTE FOR WIFE ANGEL

  4. T.... M....

Rock-bottom low point of a brilliant musical career.

  5. S.... H....

Worst than the frog song 😟👎🐸

  6. J.... S....

Paul died before this came out thats why it sucks

    J.... S....

Joker Sad you really believe that “Paul is dead” nonsense

  7. J.... S....

    This song fuckin sucks😭😭

  8. t.... ....

There I see a good Canadian singer. Carry on Mr OPP. Blessings in Christ Jesus name. I'm down with OPP yeah you know me. Praying 4. In Christ Jesus name.

  9. j.... c....

i love this song...funny melody for a comedy film...

  10. B.... ....

Loved the movie, but man I do NOT remember this song. Not anything about it at all.

    B.... ....

How the hell is that possible as this was a hit single worldwide, And came off the hit soundtrack album of the same name-VERY CONFUSED
Last heard it on readio 2 months ago, Where you from?

  11. T.... D....

Just watched an interview where John Landis said this song was bad. Had to check it out for myself. Yep, he's right! So. Bad.

  12. F.... V....

Even if love Paul, i have to admit this jam doesn't match with macca's sound. Very '80's synthetic and plastic sound. Horrible. Can't find a reason he wrote this B level song.

  13. M.... S....

when this song came out, i realised just how dead the beatles had become. Mccartneys solo work prior to this was outstanding in the early 80s - pipes of peace, tug of war albums especially. even the frog chorus was a beautiful melody I still love to this day. but once we hit 1986 and this song that was it all over bar the shouting. Hes never released a memorable song since. His output nonetheless for 20 years 63-83 is the single greatest body of musical work since mozart. No debate

    M.... S....

That is one of the stupidest opinions I’ve ever heard, I usually don’t say this often but this is a real **”OK BOOMER”** moment

  14. m.... m....

Movie came out in 1985 and to this day you cannot download this song from i tunes.

    m.... m....

    one of itunes better decisions.

  15. P.... J....

I love the album that immediately followed this, Press to Play.

  16. P.... g....

    👎Shit!!

  17. B.... C....

    i love the van

  18. D.... S....

    Spy resembling us

  19. J.... ....

    "SNEAKY!"

  20. B.... C....

    i love his drum

  21. T.... ....

Fun Fact: Apparently, 1985 Dan Aykroyd was apparently Jack Black.

  22. S.... f....

could be a bad-ass song just a little too cheesy

  23. D.... ....

Although I don't consider this to be one of Paul McCartney's best efforts but this song did help me go through a rough time over me getting shunned by a girl who I've had a huge crush on high school on Facebook, while I didn't like being rejected by her she did do me a huge favor by helping me remember the person who I was before I've developed a close friendship with another girl who I've met online, while me and my online friend became close friends I've became a completely different person who became more serious, uptight & less tolerant towards others, once I've gotten shunned by my high school crush she helped me remember the goofy, lighthearted person that I was in my younger years and I've decided to become that person again, while I wasn't getting a lot of respect from the people who I've admired in high school on Facebook it gave me a wake up call & a reality check.

  24. D.... ....

While this song is cheesy I actually like it better than "Ebony & Ivory" and "We All Stand Together".

    D.... ....

This is Edam though not Stilton so all is good

  25. s.... p....

not bad for a little quickie rap tune when rap was still very new. The bass in the faster section is typically great McCartney, it is sounds kinda wild and fun.

    s.... p....

Rap still very new, Where you been living on a desert island???
Rap came out in the 1970's

  26. J.... D....

You wouldn't get requests for this one at a Paul McCartney concert today, in stark contrast to his other big spy movie movie theme song "Live and Let Die."

  27. J.... B....

im confused?....never seen this video on MTV!%....

GA TE D RE VE RBBB

  30. K.... V....

Chevy and Dan in the same movie and video love it classic

  31. A.... M....

I hate the 80's but Macca and Harri were ok
The second one was brillant in that shitty era

  32. B.... G....

This song is better than I remember.

  33. F.... R....

I didn't know Shane McMahon could sing.

  34. B.... C....

    i love his drum

  35. S.... B....

I'd forget all about this song. Came out when I was in middle school and we loved it!

  36. D.... S....

    0:28 hahahaja

  37. S.... ....

I love Paul McCarney solo _when he is good_, but this must be one of his absolutely worst songs... When you know you are a genius, you often think you don't need to put any effort in the writing--that's the explanation why Paul is so uneven.

  38. C.... C....

"Paul McCartney" is not Paul McCartney... research it... come out of the illusion. https://youtu.be/R0D7xTFodNI

  39. b.... ....

Quite possibly the worst offering by Paul McCartney, ever.

  40. L.... C....

If only the camera would pan down at the end, when Paul is shaking his ass! I need to see that.

    L.... C....

    Mrs. Cunningham!

  41. A.... C....

    Why does people hate It??????

  42. L.... C....

It got me through high school.

    L.... C....

jerking off got me through high school

  43. H.... S....

Haha. I've never seen this before. Too cool!

  44. R.... ....

...OH DEAR GOD, It IS as BAD as I remembered it!! ..ha-HAAA! ...peeee-YEW! ! >: (

And to think, this tripe has some chart significance for Macca; this (at the time) was his 100th charted hit in the US (combined with solo / Beatles / Wings charted hits), and, this was his last Top 10 Pop hit (#7; Jan. 1986); this song kinda sorta came n' went...even Macca seemed offput / embarrassed of it...notice the ONLY time he looks into the camera, was at the end ( the Abbey Road homage)!

....OOH, it is bad; leaden drum machines, stale lyrics, misplaced guitar riffs (which are kinda hot, by the by), out of place synth stabs, and CHEVY CHASE...need I continue? >: (

    .....but, it's from the 80's...so, I digress? ha-HAA!!

    R.... ....

...Not looking into the camera means you're embarrassed by something?

  45. B.... C....

I strongly dislike the idea that Chevy Chase got to share space with Paul McCartney in any regard, ever.

    B.... C....

And Paul Simon too. Guy's a total dick...

    B.... C....

being famous is great aint it you can be a no talent like chase at least dan writes screenplays sometimes and you get to meet your idols

  46. B.... C....

I _would_ hate to say that this video is the most embarrassing thing Paul McCartney's ever done . . .

because it would be WRONG. _Ebony and Ivory_ is still the most singularly humiliating thing in Paul's public career.

but Dan Aykroyd bopping up and down with his mouth wide open like a _particularly_ stupid chimpanzee at 3:15 is RIGHT UP THERE.

Also, I don't believe I even really NEED to go into Paul's "WaCkY Uncle" sweater choice, do I?

Yeah I didn't think so. It's pretty rough.

Still, it's FAR better than *MY* music video to an insanely forgettable song in support of an insanely forgettable 1980's John Landis comedy. I will grudgingly admit it. •b

    B.... C....

Please tell us more about how your tastes are so much more complex and refined than everyone else's. ha-HAA! Yeesh...

  47. B.... C....

I LOVE it when music videos stop the stupid *music* or just *blare loud explosions* right over the stupid lyrics . . . I LOVE it.

I mean, *who cares* about the stupid song and the stupid lyrics? *who cares* about the stupid *music* in music videos?

I really think it's really awesome when music videos take the music right out of them.

    they're my favorite.

    B.... C....

Oh here you are again with your clever crafted sarcasm. It's almost as if you strive to be snooty and irrelevant.

  48. N.... K....

    Spies like us

  49. e.... ....

Heard this on Casey Kasem Countdown Classic Show today..

  50. P.... g....

    Horrible!!!!

  51. R.... R....

Great song from a very funny movie, with a serious message.

  52. c.... ....

Goofy ass video, still many fond memories of the 80s.

  53. M.... P....

    Great song, full of fun!

  54. A.... T....

sbunny8: Actually the lyrics to 'Let em in' are a tribute to many other GREAT artists, such as 'Phil and Don', The Everly Brothers (one of the greatest duos of all time), etc.

  55. E.... B....

    Still love this Tune.

  56. s.... ....

Douglass Adams said it best. Paul McCartney's brain was stolen by aliens and he started writing lyrics like "Somebody's knocking at the door. Do me a favor. Open the door. Let 'em in."

  57. B.... w....

I WOULD TELL PAUL MCcARTNEY RIGHT UP IN HIS BRITISH FACE!!!!
THISISMYFAVORITESONGOFYOURBRO!!!! I love ya man, Love Jullian too!

    JESUS Loves You,Me & Ringo!

  58. M.... R....

Love this song I don't care what anyone else says! It's a great rocker! Well done Macca!

    M.... R....

what a great actor that paul is film sucks but great song cant find it any where on pms cds and it aint on the freaking lp soundtrack

    M.... R....

they spared no expense with the freaking cheesey glasses brilliant comedy

    M.... R....

its the lowest point in his musical career without a shadow of a doubt.

    M.... R....

    This is pure shite

  59. J.... ....

It's actually a brilliant pop song for the time it came out. People hate it because deep down they actually love it. Paul McCartney is a genius.

    J.... ....

"for the time it came out" - no, there were some brilliant songs in the pop charts in 1985, from Take on Me and View to a Kill to the more adventurous stuff like The Cure and Talking Heads, that still sound fresh today. This is a fundamentally unremarkable record.

    J.... ....

    @punkpoetry
I love this song. But the 80s was full of great bands like the Beatles.
In the 60s they were it.
In the 80s, there was too great a surplus of such greats to focus.

    J.... ....

@Peter Jackson no, the 80s were a pretty dismal time compared to the golden age of Jimmy Hendrix, The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Captain Beefheart, The Velvet Underground, The Rolling Stones, The Silver Apples, The Kinks, The Doors, The Beach Boys, (the early and most creative) Pink Floyd, (the early and most creative) Dr John, The Stooges, Phil Spector, Bob Dylan, Cream and King Crimson among dozens of other greats.

    J.... ....

They might hate it because the movie an song theme was to real

  60. g.... m....

    beautiful Gabriel maccioco

  61. D.... ....

While this wasn't one of Sir Paul's best songs but I prefer it to "Ebony And Ivory" and "We All Stand Together (Frog Chrous)".

  62. B.... C....

    i love his mask

  63. N.... M....

Ending scene is the worst part. Recreating the Abbey road cover just to hang with movie stars.

  64. g.... ....

    push 2,2,2,2,2,2,2

  65. U.... S....

    oh look. a music video

  66. R.... W....

oh my goodness.......the mid 80s are a horrific part of McCartney's career. This song fits right in with Press to Play. Shockingly bad. It was like he was in a mid-life crisis musically. Give my regards to Broadstreet was a big bomb at the box office and he all of a sudden he needed to try and prove he wasn't an old relic, so he went and got all 80's sounding. Awful. The thing of it is, it wasn't necessary....his music, done his way, has worked in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s.

  67. V.... L....

Where do I recognize that road from?

  68. b.... ....

I adore this song..It takes me back to being a kid in 1986 and shaking to its perky beat, especially the manic ending!

  69. P.... ....

People say its bad and how Paul lost his magic (with the recent Fuh You aswell for example) but I respect him for the fact that he experiments and still tries out new things

  70. M.... H....

just awful, but how did i go this long not knowing about it

    M.... H....

    try watching the film again

  71. S.... Y....

    Spice like girls.

  72. J.... M....

possibly the worst Paul McCartney song ever....It was on Top of the Pops 1986 the other night and it's as bad as I remembered it the first time around

    J.... M....

I think he has recently topped it with Fuh You. Lol

    J.... M....

    Actually, Get enough is worse

  73. g.... r....

The ABC Falkirk in the 80s had a nasty habit of passing the chosen  movies theme song video as a "short". So on comes Pauls song first which as you can see ,has some of the film we haven't seen yets "best  bits", The ABC Falkirk is now closed!

  74. E.... d....

    I love this song. Period.

  75. C.... ....

actually it was last mccartney's usa top10 song

  76. z.... b....

    Torture! Bloody insufferable!

  77. j.... j....

    Mac'c 80's music sucked.

  78. M.... B....

    Stefan Halper

  79. s.... ....

Truly awful, fuck you all it has to be said.

  80. a.... c....

Paul has been in top 40 off and on since 63 that is 55 years as part of wings etc solo 2 !😣

  81. D.... H....

McCartney even sounds good doing Cheez Whiz like this. On a 70s/80s McCa binge last few days. I just remember this and I did see this stupid movie

  82. s.... ....

What a cheap bastard McCartney is, he could have hired Ringo for the drum section

    s.... ....

    funny, hes an ego maniac

    s.... ....

Why would he want ringo drumming, McCartney was a great drummer and played parts ringo couldn’t during the White album

  83. M.... M....

Paul's Last Top 10 in the USA

  84. B.... K....

This is actually one of my favorite Paul McCartney songs.

    B.... K....

what a fag sweater hes wearing all that money and he cant dress cooler than this?

    B.... K....

    stupid fucking sound effects

  85. C.... O....

A Macca song like this could have easily been on Back to the egg or even Off the ground :)

    C.... O....

charliebadger Definitely sounds like it could be on Off The Ground or even Press To Play. In fact, I think it would work well on Press To Play. That album has some overproduced songs similar to the style of Spies Like Us. The thing about PTP is that there are a lot of boring songs like Talk More Talk or Only Love Remains. A song like Spies Like Us would have liven up the album more, while still fitting with the 80s style Paul had on it.

    C.... O....

It takes a lot for me to say this, being a massive Macca fan, but Press to play is his worst album. A few good songs but it's the only album i will forward songs and even give up listening to. :) ,, BUT THEN, being the genius he is, he came back with Flowers in the dirt, which is one of his greatest solo albums.

    C.... O....

charliebadger I don't think Press To Play is his worst album, McCartney II is a lot weaker in my opinion. There's like 2 good songs on McCartney II. Press To Play definitely was not as good as Macca's previous work, but it still had the passion. Flowers In The Dirt was a great album though, no arguments about that.

    C.... O....

It was on press to play 1993 version.

  86. E.... B....

I disagree,it ain't so bad.Y'know even if we love Paul,we can't always expect Band in the runs all the time.Variety is the spice of life, especially when you have a career as long as his.So lighten up people it's just a song,it ain't the second coming or anything.

    E.... B....

    Baahaha band in the runs

    E.... B....

Band With the Runs? Or Lynyrd Skynyrd, Band on the Runway

  87. M.... j....

Love the song, but hate the video

  88. r.... ....

Best thing is the bird in the bikini

  89. M.... ....

    Clip by John Landis!

    M.... ....

freaking john landis the king of subtle comedy prick should still be in jail for killing vic morrow and the 2 kids on the twilight zone set now he wasnt flying the helicopter but the kids were not supposed to be in those dangerous setting and at 2am in the morning there are child labor laws fuck john landis and fuck the three amigos

  90. L.... ....

    RIP Bernie Casey

  91. o.... ....

    Hey Hey
    What do you say
No one else dance like way
    So watch all the fun
    Ain't nobody
    Spies Like Us!
Best song he ever recorded, his entire Beatles career built up to this and hasn't topped since

    o.... ....

orgasmgrind your full of shit please lol wings sucked but band on the run blows this song away

  92. T.... ....

    What a fucking disaster.

  93. S.... ....

    This cruds me out.

  94. B.... L....

dan aykroyd was the worst thing of the 80's and chevy chase too

    B.... L....

    Bela Lugosi 2/10

    B.... L....

you met dan ackroyd then?I haven't sadly but he did no harm!😍

  95. m.... h....

this is horrible. Almost negates his Beatles output.

    m.... h....

messinger harold what's wrong with you ? Takes nothing away from his past as a Beatle... Dan Aykroyd asked Paul to do a song because he's a huge Beatles fan, so shut up fuckwad.

    m.... h....

jeez he is having fun even Beatles can chill out !😎

    m.... h....

This is what happens when you're as prolific a Paul. They can't all be hits but the bastard could shit a song out of thin air.

    m.... h....

This song is amazing. You’re crazy my friend.

    m.... h....

He even ended the video with an Abbey Road send-up! He's a human being, not a demi-god!
