Mayfield, Curtis - Power To The People Lyrics

We want the power for the people
That's all we ask in our country dear
The sick and the hungry are unable
Protect them and those who may live in fear

We as the young wish to say in this song
God bless great America
We give thanks to the old for acheiving their goal
It is now up to us and we know we must build up a trust

And we want the power for the people
That's all we ask in our country dear
The sick and the hungry are unable
Protect them and those who may live in fear

Power for the people
Power for the people
Power for the people

Hardening crimes is a part of the times and it's rough for some people to live
Disease can move fast but it don't have to last
It is now the nation's turn for all to be concerned
We can be freer still, it is the people's will

And bring back the power for the people
That's all we ask in our country dear
The sick and the hungry are unable
Protect them and those who may live in fear

Power for the people
Power for the people
Power for the people
Power for the people
Power for the people
Power

We want the power for the people
That's all we ask in our country dear
The sick and the hungry are unable

Power for the People does not mean relying on the Gov't to do things WE should be doing collectively. The Gov't doesn't care about people, oh sure there are some~ but the majority just want to keep taxes rising and for what??? When I could do this governing MYSELF. God gave me a brain to Learn how to do things on my own without relying on those who do not care if I live or die. The last time I trusted the Gov't they sent me to Afghanistan and Iraq.. and other missions not allowed to speak of.. The Good Lord is the ONLY One I trust now and the rest, I pray for. I don't hate them, but I have seen their hate and it's not good. Just keep Freedom the way it's supposed to be and has been for this long but TEACH children don't just plop them out! TEACH THEM that this nation is the Final place to have True Freedom. But it does come with a High price..

You were sent by the masters of capitalism to die for them in those far away lands. You are too full of love for the class enemy to recognize that simple fact. Also, you cling to your opiate of religion to remain in denial that there is even a class enemy. "They tell me of a pie up in the sky, waiting for me when I die. But between the time you're born and when you die, they never seem to hear even your cry". Wise up, old man.

Power to the people, not power to the rich and the well influenced and those that are presently in power. Those that are in power are destroying the dreams of so many whether it is rural america and coorporations buying out farms, urban america being gentrified or a healthcare industry profitting off of the sick, ultimately power to the people is what will be because the people can and will decide how America should be governed not the rich.

  16. T.... B....

Thanks for recommend him to me ! Thanks Steve !

  17. t.... ....

I agree so much with the sentiments posted. Mayfield is up there with the best of them.

  18. f.... ....

"we want the power for the people; that's all we ask in our contract deal..."

  19. M.... ....

lets start with ending drug prohibition and getting drugs out of the hands of gangs, drug abuse should be treated like an illness and drugs should be legal. they're here either way, believe me

    M.... ....

why should we do that? Its not as if the war on drugs have disproportionately effected communities as did Jim Crow Laws

  20. b.... ....

I couldn't agree more. The thing that prevented Curtis from getting his just due was the limited amount of crossover that occurred between types of music. Back then, the general attitude was that everyone listened to music of their own kind according to race. But that all changed after MJ's solo career took off. But before then, the idea of crossover was pretty much taboo & off-limits. I miss Curtis dearly!!!

  22. z.... ....

Power to the people, free howard morgan!!!

  23. R.... S....

Curtis does not get enough credit. He is up there with any damn song writer you wanna name, Lennon, Dylan you name them, and yes he was the man.

    R.... S....

    Yes Curtis Mayfield is

    R.... S....

Ramses Stafford agreed! such an enormous back catalogue of his songs, with the impressions and songs he wrote or produced for others. Always with a civil rights message, an absolute legend and a great loss. The music lives on though

  24. T.... ....

@Carex09 I did not do that on my own. It is from the album "Curtis". Have a look!

  25. D.... G....

    He was the man..
