Mayer, John - Why Georgia Lyrics
I am driving up 85 in the
Kind of morning that lasts all afternoon
Just stuck inside the gloom
4 more exits to my apartment but
I am tempted to keep the car in drive
Cause I wonder sometimes
About the outcome
Of a still verdictless life
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Why, why Georgia, why?
Wood in places to make it feel like home
But all I feel's alone
It might be a quarter life crisis
Or just the stirring in my soul
Either way I wonder sometimes
About the outcome
Of a still verdictless life
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Why, why Georgia, why?
So what, so I've got a smile on
But it's hiding the quiet superstitions in my head
Don't believe me
Don't believe me
When I say I've got it down
Everybody is just a stranger but
That's the danger in going my own way
I guess it's the price I have to pay
Still "everything happens for a reason"
Is no reason not to ask myself
If I am living it right
Am I living it right?
Am I living it right?
Why, tell me why
Why, why Georgia, why?

Mayer, John Why Georgia Comments
At 19, for my father’s work, my family and I will be moving to GA. Beautiful state and God I AM excited. But to leave home, everything and everyone I’ve ever known and love, the question that keeps coming to mind is “Why Georgia, why?”
Hearing this song today makes me realize how long I’ve been wanting to leave
Anyone in 2020
listening to this in the highway is a good feeling!!
I broke up with a sweet girl around 04, and I was driving to work on a foggy morning, and these lyrics hit me hard. I did the right thing, but I think about that time every time I hear this song. I can't believe this is 15+ years old!! Time flies.
Timeless
Always loved this song , I miss the days when this music was on the billboard charts not sex craved drug fueled money flashing "rappers" and djs
Born too late for great music culture. Born to early to see it change i guess
He is the songwriter of our generation
why lisa why
How many people drove up I-85 in Atlanta just to have that kind of morning that lasted all afternoon?
Remeber listening to this as a kiddie 🎶
It's almost sad to listen to his earlier work and to know from interviews that he feels he lied to his fans because he didn't actually feel these songs. He wrote ditties he knew would sell, but were essentially meaningless to him. He has said he suffers from narcissistic disorder and felt like people would just buy anything he sold because he's so much smarter than anyone else.
I still love his music but it leaves me feeling conflicted every time, now.
He definitely loves performing this song, it's easy to spot the radio songs he clearly doesn't care about.
I 💖John🌞🌻🕊🐢
Play this song at 2x speed. It will blow your mind.
John Mayers song writing skills are insane.

I don't know why I love listening to this song again and again
Mayer is Dead too me :)
I love this 🎶
Please checkout *Out of Whack* by ninanile. It’s a song I wrote. I’m an aspiring writer and your support is much appreciated ☺️
The chords and the vibe John brought out at that time, makes me smile. Reminds me when my boys were tottlers in swattlin off on some camping trips to the Sierra. And taking them to Cambria for coastal get aways. Fun times with these now memorible wonderful tunes
this song always reminds me of driving up I-26, leaving Charleston, SC for the last time. Listened to this album the whole way through the state.
Is this Georgia like the state? Why not Carolina? California? Texas?
pretty sure its where john mayer got his start
Why Georgia? WHYYY?
Wonderful song with some pretty deep lyrics...magic!
Everybody is, just an stranger but, that’s the danger of, going my own way...
Damn
To many commas
Axel Gravgaard I have always loved his music! It hits home for a lot of us!
Going your own way is completely courageous and beautiful
My friend would play this song on his guitar all the time
I love the beginning!
If you really listen to these lyrics, they are very profound in thought. Mayer doesn't really get enough credit for how excellent his song writing ability is
Interested to hear why you think he's not given enough credit for his songwriting? I've always considered him one of the greatest songwriters of all time, and was under the impression, most artists did too?
He’s brilliant
His talent is well known and respected amongst his piers, but yes he is a lyrical genius that is often overlooked by ppl listening to his music
COMPLETELY AGREE 1000%
The man’s a song-writing genius of our time. There is *absolutely no denying that.*
I love this album
I love this song
His lyrics!! I so appreciate the way he's able to use plain English to convey things we all feel and can't quite express. Magician, genius, word wizard.
"Might be a quarter life crisis" Always that was brilliant.
love love love these songs
I love john mayor so much . His music always puts me in the best mood 🖒🖒
I miss listening to John Mayor <3
My favourite song from 'Room for Squares'... Can't believe it's been 16 years since this album was released. Happy sweet 16, JM! ❤
Perfect mornin driving song up 85 with the top down! I ❤️ Georgia!!!
This song hits my soul.... Some Whiskey and good friends ..
love his musis..too bad he's looped
Lol...that's funny. He developed a massive ego...got high on his own supply. Made him looped.
love this song but damn it brings back memories i don't like
I wanna go back to the joy of my childhood: exploring, good friends, simplicity, and ofcourse, OFCOURSE, GOOD MUSIC. Remember hearing No Such Thing for the first time in 2000 in Laurel, Md at my childhood friend's house and then watching John make hit after hit after that. He's still making good music today.
Sung Yul Taylor felt good reading your comment. i guess it always feels good reading someone else's experiences.
very good amazing
i like this and continuum the best, damn these songs give me the FEELS!!!!!!
Amazing album
My state <3 Driving on 85, you can really find yourself~
One of my all time faves
never heard in 2001 but it's so good. great song maybe one of the best ballads from the 00S
I heard this song at Walmart
They don’t play music at my Walmart 😔
Juan Luna Right?
I'm actually laughing.
But it caught your attention right??
@Scrappleton II im a metalhead... if only megadeth was played in walmart smh
Amazing song!
I hear this song everywhere, I was having Sushi at a local Japanese restaurant the other day and this song came on.
That's John Mayer's fav food too :)
2:48-2:52 made the song for me
One of the best rock debut albums!

Still is in 2019.
Its never to late to take the road less traveled. Am I living life right? I am back on a steady stable mood. Thank you!
TheFloyd Can I come? I've found that we grow stronger when we face the journey together
You're welcome.
"Cause I wonder sometimes
About the outcome
Of a still verdict less life."
Great lyrics!!!
Indeed!
could you explain the meaning of a verdict less life? I think he means simple living, a nonproblematic life. Maybe this wrong. Thanks.
I think what he’s saying is he’s worried if he’s going to live up to his and other’s expectations. He wrote this song in his late teens early twenties before he made it big, he moved to Georgia to try to make a career in music and he didn’t know if he was going to fail in music or not but he went for it.
even the Mayer went mainstream and lost something o well at least he left some great albums behind
Darryl Andrew Doorbal Room For Squares thru Battle Studies, so many gorgeous tracks! I have this theory about brilliant artists, they usually give you 4 stellar studio albums, like the Counting Crows, debut thru "Hard Candy"... There are exceptions to the rule, but if you don't get out there and live real life experiences, the albums often flatline...
this is one of his most "mainstream" hits dude
Joe Knapp his creative juice is not the same, rich & famous, kind of messes you up in that way
That's why I got mad...
I need THIS John Mayer...not MONTANA Mayer!!!😶😶😶
@mikebtko lol guess you haven't seen him play changing or Helpless live. It's definitely still there.
So much feeling on this song, dont know why
Cabo8520 .... Nice vocal dynamics (highs and lows)
Wonderful songs!!!! :)
Thanks for posting all of these John Mayer songs! I love this one!
