Maureen McGovern - I'll Never Say Goodbye Lyrics

Say goodbye
Why, I can barely say goodnight
If I can hardly take my eyes from yours
How far can I go?

Walk away
The thought would never cross my mind
I couldn't turn my back on spring or fall
Your smile least of all

When I say always
I mean forever
I trust tomorrow as much as today
I'm not afraid to say
I love you
And I promise you
I'll never say goodbye

We're dancers on a crowded floor
While other dancers live from song to song
Our music goes on and on
And if I never leave your arms
I really will have traveled everywhere
For my world is there

When I say always
I mean forever
I trust tomorrow as much as today
I'm not afraid to say
I love you
And I promise you
I'll never say goodbye

How could I ever say goodbye?

Maureen McGovern I'll Never Say Goodbye Comments

Maureen McGovern really knows how to deliver a song, with all its sensitivity, sincerity, and heartfelt emotion. Her sense of melody is unsurpassed, her voice is beyond reproach. Simply put, she's one of the absolute finest, and a consummate professional in every facet of her craft.

This is beautiful, but this song will always belong to Melissa Manchester.

Sure you can compare her to Barbra here, but the difference is that Barbra was around 70 when she made her recording ! Maureen McGovern has always credited Streisand for being one of her prime influences. I remember her saying that her phrasing in her earlier work was heavily influenced by her. I was really surprised to read that she never received any vocal training until she was in her 50s and doing a theater show. She is all the proof one needs to know that having great talent is not always enough. If she started out on Broadway, sang more jazz standards or recorded better material perhaps she could have been a huge recording star. She recorded a few popular hits in the 70s and that was it.

Maureen McGovern super voice, super interpretation, better than Streisand hear I think.

    +p1anosteve Dear Steve - Maureen is such a consummate interpreter, and here she was accompanied by David Shire himself. She has such a wide range with incredible agility. I have made so many videos with Maureen tracks. They all (I think) are in this one playlist if you're interested (I'm guessing you must be a long-time fan) - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8S231HxHQNUPkuBkYq0-HTlr9zyahUi_ Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Have a beautiful week. :-}

+PhDinRomance I love  Barbra who I grew up listening to. But I do think Maureen is such a superb singer,  her voice is a rare and instrument and she knows just how to use it musically. I have Maureen's Bergman CD  (favourite  track "It Might be You")  and it inspired me to learn to play some of the songs. It's interesting to hear David Shire playing here too. Thank you for posting. I'll be posting the piano solo soon!

(To Floppy sunhat)  I concur.  Her version on 'The Music Never Ends' is simply the best rendition.  It was very sweet with great accompanying orchestral backup and Maureen at her sweetest and most agile.  I was working on setting it to the actual movie when the news of the lead actor came out.  Devastated and shocked, I stopped that project.  However, I'll find an appropriate visual to set it to.  This version with the composer Mr. Shire is intimate and lovely.  The Bergmans are the ultimate lyricists in my book.  What great eloquent poets of love and romance.  I've often imagined how sweet and romantic they would converse with each other.  :-}  Thanks for watching and sharing.

I think Maureen McGovern's I'll Never Say Goodbye is a definitive version of this song for me. Both Alan and Marilyn Bergman wrote a beautiful introduction on the leaflet of her album, full of praise for the purity of her voice and tone.

This is a beautiful song regardless of who sings it.  This particular arrangement with Maureen McGovern and the accompanying photos is stunningly beautiful and sensitive.  This piece is exquisite and overflows with what love should be.  Thank you, Ms. McGovern and to "PhDinRomance", whoever you are.

    “Patience is power.
    Patience is not an absence of action;
    rather it is "timing"
it waits on the right time to act,
    for the right principles
    and in the right way.”
