@Alya Al Tareef well its cloaked in romantic vernacular, so its purposefully ambiguous. but i could be wrong - to clarify, his producer Mocky asked him to imagine he was in front of his audience and to write a song based on that, so maybe he was writing about love and wanted the audience to hear, or maybe he was writing about the audience in a certain way. 
i always took it as he wishes to find some sort of peace with his fans, like despite the distance and trying to sieve through the real ones and the fake ones, and the chaos of trying to connect with them, 'even though you can't touch me, im right there under your skin' etc. as for the chorus, its iffy but i would say he may be referring to filtering through the people who genuinely admire him. he'll 'find them'. 'lay you down' doesnt have to mean sexually.. it could mean like put to rest or, analogous to a mother laying their child down to sleep. idk.

I do like the interpretation of filtering through the fans, but I still can't see how putting the fans to rest would connect to his message. Maybe it is meant to be truly ambiguous, like you said.
